YOU ARE HOLDING YOUR BOUQUET WRONG. PUT IT DOWN. 99 out of a hundred wedding dresses have the focal point at the bodice. It is the first thing people look at. Yet, for some reason brides tend to hold their bouquet directly in front of their bodice when walking down the aisle, blocking the view of that beautiful dress. Brides, please lower your hand away from your chest so your bouquet is in front of your navel or hip, thus allowing everyone to see the beautiful bodice as you walk down the aisle. Bridesmaids, you too. The first 3 photos show how NOT to hold the bouquets. The last 3 photos show the proper way to hold them so we can see that beautiful dress.

Ladies, venue first, dress later. Quite often women get the ring and rush to the bridal store for their dress. Bad move. One friend of mine bought a huge ball gown, but the aisle of the church was so narrow that her father barely fit next to her, and her mother was unable to walk with her on the other side as planned. There was also no room for flowers or candles on the aisle. Get your venue first. It may change the style and design of the dress you choose. (Some venues are too casual for fancy dresses. Some are fancier than the dress.) If you get the dress first, plan on searching for one that accommodates your dress.

The past few years, couples have been attempting to create unique and thrifty wedding ceremonies. One of the best ways to make your wedding unique is to find "outside the box" venues. With the right decor, even an alley can be transformed. Here are a few ideas: Ruins, Bowling Alleys, Botanical Gardens, Canyons, Parking Lots, Castles, Libraries, Gardens, Barns, Christmas Tree Farms, Fruit Groves, Barns, Antique Stores, Tree Houses, Underwater, Theme Parks, Ice Caves, Ponds, Museums, Native American parks, Aquariums, Zoos. (I'm here if you need me.)

Well, I'm happy to say we have moved to our own little nest in Titusville, Florida. This house felt like home the moment we walked in. Now that we have it all painted and our belongings in it, it is a dream come true. It is beautifully decorated using all the gifts my children gave me over the years. Truly enjoying my new life.

NEWEST TREND FOR TODAY'S WEDDING? GO OLD! Many couples are choosing vintage themes for their ceremonies and receptions in 2019. The vintage look can bring romance back to a ceremony.

When choosing your dress and groom's clothes, make sure your clothing matches your venue. You'd be surprised how many brides come to the beach with long trains, men wear Hawaiian shirts and sneakers in a cathedral, high heals in a park, etc. Plan it out. Also, plan what you believe your guests will be wearing. It would be nice to make a "suggestion" for the attire they should consider. (TIP: Slinky dresses are often see-through. Think of this when your backdrop is a sunset or sunrise. Your guests may see more than they ever intended.)

I had a glorious time at a little wedding in Celebration, Florida on Saturday. Chris and Kathleen were so much fun. When the hotel advised that the outside dance floor was damaged in the hurricane, this couple simply said "it is what it is." No sorrows, no complaints. What a special couple. We had a blast, and I wish them well.

GUESS WHAT! I'M WRITING A BOOK. Those who know me well, know that I am a writer. I'm veering from my usual eclectic fiction to writing a self-help book "PENNY PINCHERS GUIDE TO PERFECT WEDDINGS." I intend to make it available in Kindle and print formats. I'll keep you updated when it's time to go to press. Wish me luck!

BIGGEST REGRET TIP #4: DID NOT CHECK OUT THE VENUE/VENDORS WELL ENOUGH BEFORE SIGNING.

Again, this is where a professional planner comes in handy. We know the venues, we know the vendors. But, if you're doing it on your own, please ask eight million questions before you sign on the dotted line. I knew of one venue, that had a rule that any guest caught drinking outside in the parking lot would be asked to leave. (They were afraid you'd drink something besides their in-house booze.) How embarrassing for your guests. I have a venue that will not allow us additional time to decorate, unless the couple coughs up more money. So, the time for the wedding had to be moved back to allow for only one hour of decorating, and it cuts into their party time. Some vendors need to be researched. AGAIN, I CAN'T TELL YOU ENOUGH ABOUT THE NEED TO GO SLOW. PLAN WELL IN ADVANCE.

BIGGEST REGRET TIP #3. Appreciating Dad. The wedding is all about the couple. Moms are regularly admired as well. More and more couples regret the spare time they gave their dads during the party. Other than the Father/Daughter dance, Dads often get forgotten. Grooms and Brides alike should spend time with Dad, thanking him for all that he has done in your life, thanking him for being there. If a Dad has not been the best, a wedding is a good place to bury the hatchet and start anew.

BIGGEST REGRET TIP #2. Couples forget to eat. There is so much socializing during the dinner hour. Couples want to ensure that the guests are taken care on, but often are so keyed up, they forget to sit for dinner until after all the food is put away. If there is drinking involved, this can lead to a miserable wedding night. EAT! If you think you'll be up and running around during the dinner hour, then ask your caterer to make two plates and set aside. (Hopefully, they'll be a microwave in your venue.) If not, eat first, be social bugs immediately after.

MOST REGRETTED WEDDING TIP # 1: The most common regret most couples claim is that they wish their guest list had been smaller. Large weddings are beautiful, and the bride gets to shine for hundreds, but most of the time the couples feel they are not able to socialize the way they want, with those they want, not to mention the cost, the difficulty in finding venues, etc. More guests = equals less dancing. Most guests at a large party often feel as if they get lost in the crowd, the room is too packed, they can't see what is going on, and the lines are too long. Think long and hard about allowing others (moms) to invite all of their friends and extended cousins.
