How many times has the Missionary came to your church and touched you deeply with their story?
Last Sunday, Missionary Lundy Logue, missionary to Cuba visited Calvary Tabernacle of Winona Lake. He talked of his mission in Cuba, then preached an incredible message.
Somehow, prior to service, he had met my husband Gary and learned of his growing up farming. He referred to it in the service, and shared that the people in Cuba, a Communist ruled country mostly exist, every single day, on beans and rice, with occasional treats of yucca and plantains. The government there owns ALL the beef for the tourist trade in Havana... and he knows of someone who got eating beef and was put in prison for 8 years. He spoke of purchasing motorcycles or scooter for the pastors to get to and from the churches they pastor (some of them walk 10-15 miles). He spoke of one pastor who's father had a house that here in America would be referred to as just a shack, but they made it into their church, and now the family sleeps in blankets on the tile floor...but they're rejoicing to have a church. For all that they do not have, they DO have revival, and their "churches" are growing. One of the local pastors had a patch of ground. He has been clearing it by hand, and planting whatever seeds he can find... he has a few pigs also..and he feeds his congregation. Missionary Logue mentioned that a tractor could be purchased there for $7,000, and besides using the tractor for farming, they could hitch a wagon to it to haul people to church.
Following service I publicly volunteered to head up a fundraiser to buy that tractor! All I said was, "This farmer's wife would love to head up the fundraiser to buy that tractor"...and, to quote the words of our Missions Director, Tony Sell, "that little spark started a fire!" GOD had already moved on the hearts of several people, and before it was all said and done, and within minutes, our small congregation had already come up with $10,000+ to be donated for the tractor.
Well...I Praise God for that...but I had already purposed in my heart to raise funds by smoking pulled pork and offering it by the quart for a minimum donation of $16 each. That wagon that will haul those people to church behind that tractor...maybe a plow or a planter... and if we can get seeds to them, LET'S DO THIS for the church in Cuba. Missionary Logue says that the even though Cuba as we know it will almost surely not last another two years, THE CHURCH in Cuba, even though poor and hungry, are thriving spiritually and experiencing revival!
