I remember looking at Rosemary as tears started to well up inside of me. Hearing the stories about her herbal ancestors, made me remember my own. My yiayia, Zoe, a Greek herbalist and artist from Patras. and my pappou, Solon, a sheep hearder from Kalendzi, Greece. I remember telling Rosemary “I feel so much sadness and happiness at the same time.” “I miss my grandparents, but I know they would be happy I am here.” She smiled and nodded at me. “I know that feeling well” she said. I felt cleansed from the tears and putting words to my feelings. As I tend not to share much of what I feel with the world. When I do, I become brave and a bit lighter. I went on a journey to Greece to learn about herbalism and the medicinal plants there. What I did not expect to learn was that herbalism started with my yiayia and was passed onto me without either of us really noticing. It was just the way she and my pappou lived. They brought their village lifestyle from Greece to America. I feel happy and sad all at once because I yearn to get back to a simpler way of living. I felt my grandparents sitting at the table right beside me that day, smiling, drinking tea, and eating bread. Yet no matter where I looked I couldn’t see them. I could only feel them right there next to me. They whispered to me, be free, you are protected, help people. I felt home. As I go forward on this green path, I choose to honor my herbal ancestors and make beautiful art with flowers, and medicinal herbal remedies that invoke that feeling of peace. That feeling of home. 🫂🧿✨🫀🇬🇷🫒🌿🌊♥️🧚🌾

Kythira you are forever in my heart! So are the amazing humans I met on this Journey back home to Greece who have inspired me, cared for me, and taught me. So much gratitude. 🫶🏽🇬🇷🧿 Juliette brought us here. May our plant paths cross again. 🌿 Thank you for bringing us together. Thank you for your wisdom and sweet soul.
