Hot take…YES…and no. And here’s why:
We’ve all heard them a million times! They’re agreeably overplayed, and we haven’t had many new ones in the last decade, and there are plenty of other songs out there to play…BUT….as overplayed as they are…they are sometimes the KEY 🔑 to breaking the ice on a dance floor.
We’ve DJ & MC’d many weddings where line dances made it on the do not play list, and the dance floors did not fill up no matter what song or genre was played. Sometimes, that one line dance is what someone is waiting for on the dance floor to feel comfortable enough to break out their best dance moves! 🕺🪩
If your wedding has the following, we recommend being flexible with line dances:
- A small, more intimate sized group
- Large mix of family
- An alcohol free wedding
Or if you’re completely opposed to line dances, try working with your DJ & coordinator to add other ice breakers through the night before the dance floor opens, like wedding games! We love to do this with our couples! ☺️
Additionally, another way we love to break the ice and open the dance floor while avoiding using any line dances, is using something called the Reverse Anniversary dance! It starts with the couple who has been together the longest, and ends with you, the newly weds! By the time it ends with you, the WHOLE floor is filled and it’s a perfect way to kick off the dance floor. 🤩
Ultimately, the choice is ALWAYS up to you! Whatever you choose, we’ll work with you to make the night exactly how you dream it should be!

Very exciting news!!! 🎉 As of last week, both myself, and my wife, are now full time together running Sunkisst Entertainment ☺️. This has been a long time coming…with a LOT of prayers, crunching numbers, and more praying 😅 As many of you know this business started in 2017 with just me as DJ Sunkisst. I then met the love of my life Desireé, in 2020, and since then she’s slowly become more and more apart of the business.
