I just wanted to share this photo of the Christmas tree in front of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club on Kellett Island in Causeway Bay, Hong Kong. After finishing a meeting with a potential client, I was quite shocked to see it when I walked outside. Most of the Christmas trees in Hong Kong are artificial, but this one was an authentic Douglas Fir. ❤️🎄

Sometimes I take on different roles at weddings, this time I was working as the "大妗姐" which would probably be called the "大妗哥" in my case, otherwise known as the bride's chaperone in English. The job of this individual is to announce the family members during the Chinese tea ceremony, and to say auspicious phrases as they pour the tea, drink the tea, and also afterwards as they put gifted gold jewellery on the bride and groom.

For example, if the paternal uncle is being served you can say something like, "斟茶俾大伯，等佢越黎越大發" which means, pour tea for the uncle, and they will become luckier and luckier(it rhymes in Cantonese). Afterwards, as they drink the tea you can say, "茶到口，千萬豪宅揸係手" When the tea touches your lips, ten million mansions are within your grasp(again, it rhymes in Cantonese). Finally, as they put jewelry on the bride you can say, "金鈪帶上手，金銀珠寶咩都有" Golden bangle on the wrist, bullion and precious stones as you wish"(I made that one rhyme in English too, LOL).

It's a fun tradition and it's always my pleasure to help out in any way that I can at the weddings that I host. 🎊😁🎉

In some personal news, this past week I had the good fortune of running into the legendary Hulk Hogan - the ultimate pop culture icon of the 80s and 90s. It's nice every once and a while to trade in my suit for a totally rad Hulkamania tank-top 💪🤣✌️

My motivation for learning Chinese was heavily influenced by Jackie Chan. Although his political stance and personal life have raised concerns in recent years, his popularity and influence in the 80s and 90s are undeniable. Meeting him in person and conversing in Cantonese was truly a dream come true, representing a milestone in my Chinese language learning journey. I have come a long way from casually learning random words from old Hong Kong movies to becoming a Cantonese teacher myself.

On the NYAFF red carpet with Eric Tsang Chi-wai(曾志偉) a few years back. As soon as I started speaking Cantonese he said, “你個衰仔，點解你啲廣東話咁叻呀？ 哈哈哈哈哈哈”。"You sly devil, Why is your Cantonese so good? Hahahahah" He's currently the General director at TVB in Hong Kong.
