It’s an honor to be included and recognized by such a prominent organization. Our relationship with Staten Island JCC Day Camp is 14+ years strong. I am so grateful to be a regularly scheduled specialist in such a supportive, welcoming, and well-rounded environment.

October 21st is National Reptile Awareness Day, A day where we celebrate and pay a little bit of extra attention to our scaly friends that slither crawl and swim all over earth. I am thankful that I get to make a living out of spreading awareness and educating about animals including our beloved lizards snakes turtles and tortoises, so to celebrate and give back, throughout the day, WILD SIDE
ZOO will be making donations to some of my favorite charities that support reptiles and their conservation. Since I’m working today it’ll most likely start at 3 o’clock so follow along!

It always feels good when you ask people how they heard about your service And their answer is to send you a screenshot of you coming up on Google when they searched your industry and vicinity.

A year ago today I didn’t even have a Google listing.

Thank you to everyone for reviewing Wild Side Zoo, and thanks to Jerry Potter for motivating me to get the Google listing itself.

If you own a business, no matter how small, even if you don’t have a storefront, you should absolutely be on google.

August 14th........... WORLD LIZARD DAY!?

For Real. Why?

Because why not! Conservation and awareness and stuff. Origins of this holiday are not immediately apparent after a quick google, and my kids wanna go out for Ice Cream, so lets keep it easy....

Between 5,500 and 6,000 plus species of lizard exist on planet Earth currently
(maybe. more, we're not sure..... because human knowledge expands, and scientists love to argue)

Some lizards are big, some are small. Some hatch from eggs, some don't. Some make cool pets, others... not so much.

We decided to do a quick feature on our newest lizard, "Clementine". Isn't she pretty! She was bred in California by the awesome folks over at Killer Clutches who hopefully made a way better Lizard Day Post then this.

Enjoy the rest of Lizard Day everyone!

We have been adding to our animal family and not posting much about it due this years intense spring and summer schedules. So without further ado…

Let’s say hello to: Lion Head Bunnies! It was tough to bring home just one, so we now have sister Rabbits “Thunder and Lightning”. They are as soft as they look, and sweet as can be. They will certainly steal the spotlight at any events they attend.

Next up is “Clementine”, our juvenile Bearded Dragon! This fancy female flew in from California 3 weeks ago and landed right in our hearts. The name not only pays homage to her orange pattern, but there’s more, and this credit goes to Nicole.. there was a famous preforming bearded woman in France a long time ago named……. clementine!

“Rex” is a 2.5 year old black and white Argentine Tegu, seen here at a recent Birthday Party.

The large snake is a male Granite Phase Burmese Python, and Coming up with a good name has escaped us so far. I’m thinking “Junior”.

The creepy as heck invertebrate is commonly referred to as a Giant Camel Spider, even though it is technically not classified as a spider at all.

“Gary” is an Eastern Box Turtle. His epic story almost turned tragic and warrants its own post one day. Kudos to his hero who is also a champion to animals in general. She noticed his plight, and saved his scaly skin from almost certain squashing.

And last but not least, a giant red chicken, one of a pair they came to live with us five days ago,
Who are so ridiculously friendly and sweet… and they each lay us a bonus every day!

Thursday’s third visit Was just as much fun for me as it was for the audience!

The beautiful weather and outdoor space set the tone for a fun filled hour.

Together we even learned about why we need to appreciate some of the more intimidating animals with which we share our planet!

This is all part of the job. It’s definitely better that it happened in my basement rather than the newly furnished living room I performed in just an hour later.

RIGHT NOW! Name an animal related or conservation oriented cause you support or plan to support in the future! It may just remind someone to do their part today.

Just last week, Wild Side Zoo proudly became a supporting member of USARK, The United States Association of Reptile Keepers with a $250 annual donation.

What does USARK do? Their mission statement reads:

"The United States Association of Reptile Keepers (USARK) is a science, education and conservation-based advocacy for the responsible private ownership of, and trade in reptiles and amphibians. We endorse caging standards, sound husbandry, escape prevention protocols, and an integrated approach to vital conservation issues. Our goal is to facilitate cooperation between government agencies, the scientific community, and the private sector in order to produce policy proposals that will effectively address important husbandry and conservation issues. The health of these animals, public safety and maintaining ecological integrity are our primary concerns."

If you own even one pet reptile, consider making a small donation today, and shout out about it (or any other recent donation to a cause you support) down below this post.

Thank you BKG Reptiles LLC for setting a great example in our community and in doing so, inadvertently reminding me to do my part with USARK.

Visit https://usark.org/ and check out what they are doing to support reptiles and their owners nationwide.

I got to hang out with a lot of students at several different schools this week.

It was awesome to be invited to the school yard of this Staten Island school, and over two days, I will visit with 4 different groups of Pre K and Kindergarten students split between Wednesday and Thursday mornings.

We all had fun hanging with some animals, and it was an excellent time.

In my arms is our 2nd largest Python, a Burmese we are calling "The Rock" due to its color morph name "granite". Maybe tomorrow I have the children suggest a better name.

Feel Free to suggest your own below as well.

We Bring the Zoo to You

We are animal lovers. Big animals, small animals, scaly animals, furry animals. Our home based traveling animal exhibition company has been hired to perform over 2,000 animal programs for private parties, school groups, summer camps, scouts, and for senior center enrichment programs and corporate events.

My name is Brian Wild (yes), and I have managed to turn my passion for animals into my life’s work. I left the NYC DOE after 6 years to run Wild Side Zoo full time. Before that, I was a pet shop manager, a volunteer at the Zoo, and an Eagle Scout. My human family and I care for over 50 animals in our home, with love, compassion, and a continued growing interest. I have combined my love for animals of all types with the satisfaction I get from sharing, entertaining, and making people happy to form this business. This is my life’s work, and my family’s pride. Let us share it with you. We promise an unforgettable experience for both children and adults alike. Our programs are conducted over a wireless mic system, and designed to engage audiences, share knowledge, provoke thought and questions, and provide information about our natural world. Emphasis is always placed on conservation, the importance of a balanced ecosystem, and the need for the next generation to learn about and enjoy the biodiversity that surrounds us, from our backyards to the other side of the earth.

Many of our animals are adopted from other loving families. Some have been rehabilitated from poor circumstance, and others purchased for the purpose of rounding out our educational programs. Let us bring our Zoo to YOU.
