This weekend I officiated my last wedding of the season. What a year! As well as the usual couples, everyone who'd been delayed by Covid wanted to get married. And everybody wanted to celebrate big time. It was a hugely busy and hugely fulfilling year--and I am hugely happy to have a little break. The icing on the cake is that Weddingwire just notified me that I've received the 2021 Couples' Choice award. Much gratitude to those who trust me to officiate their Big Day.

I have something to confess: Sometimes I get really attached to my couples, and to their wonderful families as well. Planning, rehearsing and officiating a wedding are such profound, intimate roles to play and it's easy to quickly feel close to people. The "Congratulations!" followed by the goodbyes can be really hard on my tender heart. Such is the amazing and bittersweet life of a wedding officiant.

COVID changed our wedding plans twice, and we finally decided on a small wedding but with a tight timeline. We were immediately relieved to find Jinnae, who quickly put all of our nerves at ease. Jinnae had great recommendations for the structure of the ceremony, specifically how things could work well for a smaller wedding. She recommended several things that we ended up incorporating.
Jinnae even took the time to meet us in person while we were in California to go through all the details. She was professional, organized and very prompt in helping put together the perfect ceremony for us, incorporating all of our feedback and personal details.
The ceremony itself was beautiful and had most of us in tears. Jinnae flawlessly delivered exactly what we were looking for and the ceremony was the highlight of the event. Both our families were completely blown away and continue to talk about how amazing the ceremony was. We can't say enough good things about Jinnae and our experience from start to finish. We highly recommend Jinnae and could not imagine our special day without her presence. ~ Kelly and Alex

Officiated an outdoor wedding yesterday at 3:00 in Sacramento. Beautiful setting, but So. Very. Hot. I worked with the couple to shorten the ceremony to ten minutes, they provided parasols for their 150 guests, and it went beautifully. Short but incredibly sweet. Congratulations to William and Escarlet!

After trying twice last year to get married but having their plans thwarted due to Covid, we finally got the job done yesterday for Alexander and Kelly. It was a beautiful, intimate wedding at a ranch in Lodi. Everyone cried (except for the officiant, who had to work hard not to). Pictures coming soon. Congratulations, Kelly and Alex!

A surprise wedding -- can there be such a thing? Mario called to explain that they'd tried to get married twice but their plans had been decimated -- first, by a tragic death in the family and second, by Covid 19. Here's how the surprise wedding took place:

I sat enjoying a glass of wine at The Wine Smith in Placerville. Mario and Delores came in and, as was secretly predetermined, Mario and I started up a conversation. When we eventually came to the fact that I was a wedding officiant, Mario said, "You are? Could you marry us right now?" I feigned surprise and said, "Right now? Really? We'd need witnesses!" The ladies behind the bar offered to be witnesses but I said, "No, we need more than just you two." They went into the back room to gather up more witnesses, and 25 friends and family members walked into the room.

The bride, realizing what was happening, started to cry. After lots of hugs, she was whisked off and dressed for the occasion (note the Mickey Mouse ears).

The ceremony was simple but beautiful. Delores surprised us all with a heart-filled and completely spontaneous (of course) wedding vow back to Mario's already-created one. There was much laughter and, perhaps, an equal amount of tears.

I am so glad this loving couple finally got married, and I am so honored that I got to be a part of it.

After months of cancellations and postponements, I got to officiate an actual wedding yesterday! Like so many other couples, this one chose to cancel their big wedding and instead have a small, intimate ceremony in Mom and Dad's front yard. Ah, but it was so beautiful that I had to call on my superpowers not to choke up as I officiated.

Aimee and Jeremy got married on the beautiful Auburn Courthouse steps. It was my honor to help them to plan, and then to officiate their lovely intimate ceremony.

I just wanted to say thank you so much. The ceremony was so beautiful and perfect -- it was exactly what we wanted!

Whew - what a weekend! It started with 1) hundreds of guests and a 16-member bridal party at a country club, to 2) a lovely winery with 50 guests and a couple of people in the bridal party, to 3) a couple in a park with 5 friends. All equally beautiful! Here is a photo of the last wedding. Feeling the love!

Aaaand the weddings are on this weekend! Directing a rehearsal in Sac tonight, officiating their wedding in Sac tomorrow, officiating another wedding in Auburn on Sunday, and (gasp) officiating yet another one in Nevada City on Monday. Let's get these folks (beautifully, wondrously) married!

On the 3-year anniversary of their wedding, I heard from Kristy and Casey. What a lovely surprise, and what a beautiful family! They only took 3 years to write a testimonial, but it was worth the wait:
Jinnae was our angel and blessed us with all the emotions and excitement we desired and more! Our wedding was unique and planned in only two weeks located in the garden at Deer Creek Inn. May is a tricky time to plan an outdoor wedding. It usually works, but it's really, really helpful to have an indoor backup plan. Fortunately Jenny and Tim had just that: Instead of being outdoors at the country club on Saturday, we were in the beautiful ballroom. I was impressed with how well the coordinator had rehearsed everybody. The wedding was beautiful. Congrats to Jenny and Tim!

On Thursday I got to officiate a small, intimate wedding in the private room of Monkey Cat, a restaurant in Auburn. I enjoy the small weddings as much as the big ones -- though the intention is to make it feel intimate and meaningful no matter how many people are in attendance. Congrats to Karen and Glenn!

One of the things I love about being a wedding officiant is that there are always new and beautiful places to discover. Last weekend, Ria and Byron got married at Wolf Heights Event Center in Sacramento. It was my first time there, and it was gorgeous. Congratulations, Ria and Byron!
