1 mile out on the gravel descent into transition. The course conditions are without a doubt the best we have ever had. Single track hero dirt and fast firm gravel. At 9 am today the temperature was in the late 30’s until a mile into the road decent where it jumps to mid 40s.

Day 2. For those hardy souls with something left in the bottom of the tank, this 2nd day, morning race, The Mixed Surface Showdown, is stripped back to the bones. Race over single track and various (indescribable) gravel style surfaces on a 8.5 mile loop. 850 feet of elevation gain per lap. Timing comes from Strava and the three visible leading male and female riders after two laps, turn a third lap and compete for the win. Winner takes all and it’s a one bike race - and non-motorized bike.

The delicate crunch of gravel. Re-conning some of our amazing course yesterday and I find that the forestry service has done you guys a favor, inadvertently resurfacing this gravel stretch with their logging trucks.
