Make Music Chicago is a free, citywide, DIY celebration of the musician in us all. The festival is completely free for musicians and audience alike.

People of all ages, music of all genres, and amateurs, part-time professionals, and marquee artists will gather throughout the day in Chicago’s public spaces to engage in spontaneous music making. Make Music Chicago was first celebrated in 2011.

We are so excited to announce the return of Sousapalooza! On June 21st, as a part of Make Music Chicago, the Navy Band of the Great Lakes will present a concert and Sousapalooza play-along at Ping Tom Memorial Park! Whether you last played 20 minutes ago or 20 years ago, we invite to relive the good ol’ days of concert band!
Repertoire for this year includes Sousa’s greatest marches, Percy Grainger Irish Tune from County Derry, and Holst’s ‘Chaconne’ from First Suite in Eb!

About Make Music Chicago

Every June 21st, Make Music Chicago brings together Chicagoans to celebrate their ability to make music, regardless of age, ability or preferred musical style.

Unlike a typical music festival, Make Music Chicago is open to anyone who wants to take part. Every kind of musician—young and old, amateur and professional—takes to the streets, parks, plazas, and porches of Chicago to share music of all genres with friends, neighbors and strangers. All of it is free and open to the public.

Based on the French Fête de la Musique, Make Music Chicago was first presented in 2011. Chicago joins 800 cities in 120 countries across the globe, making the Fête de la Musique the world’s largest single day music festival. Make Music Chicago is also a member of the Make Music Alliance, connecting Chicago with over 60 other U.S. cities in celebrating this day of music.

Make Music Chicago is a program of the International Music Foundation.
