Cookie Day!

It was a chilly December evening as Staff Sergeant Torres stepped into the mess hall, the weariness of his 12-hour shift still weighing heavily on his shoulders.

The room was alive with warmth and cheer, a stark contrast to the harshness of the cold night outside.

A makeshift Christmas station had been set up—folding tables adorned with bowls of colored icing, sprinkles, and freshly baked cookies waiting to be decorated.

Ben's squad leader nudged him. "C'mon, Torres. Make yourself a cookie. You’ve earned it."

He hesitated for a moment, feeling the weight of duty and the separation from his family back home.

But the smell of sugar and cinnamon drew him in.

Taking a seat, he picked up a plain cookie shaped like a Christmas tree and began spreading green icing with the precision of someone used to working with his hands.

As he added red and white sprinkles, memories of decorating cookies with his kids flooded back.

His youngest always made a mess, icing more of the table than the cookie, while his wife laughed and snapped pictures.

For a moment, the distance felt smaller, and he could almost hear their laughter.

When he finished, he held up his creation—a slightly lopsided tree with uneven sprinkles. It wasn’t perfect, but it was his. Taking a bite, he smiled, the sweetness mingling with a bittersweet ache in his chest.

For Ben, that cookie wasn’t just a treat. It was a reminder of home, a tiny piece of normalcy in a place where nothing ever felt normal. As he looked around at his fellow soldiers—some laughing, others lost in thought—he realized how much these small gestures mattered.

In that moment, the day's burdens felt lighter, and the spirit of the season, though thousands of miles from home, felt a little closer.

Tonight's feast included make-your-own tacos, chimis, taco salad, chicken tortilla soup, homemade salsa, homemade guacamole, and some yummy desserts. 🌮 🥗 🍮

We recently partnered with Doodie Calls in service of the Army National Guard in Pinellas Park, FL in response to the .

We served over 500 soldiers 3 meals a day for 7 days.

At the end of the mission, we donated half a truckload of food to a local Florida shelter.

Today marks the 23rd anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, a day that changed our nation and the world forever. As we remember this tragic event, let us also pay tribute to the heroes who emerged in the face of adversity and the resilience that unites us as a nation.

👨‍🚒 First Responders: We salute the brave firefighters, police officers, and emergency personnel who rushed into danger to save lives. Their selflessness and sacrifice inspire us all.
