Don’t mail your invitations in December! It’s the busiest time of the year for mail and your very important invitation will very likely get lost in the shuffle of holiday cards, catalogs, and packages. Mail your invitations in November or January to make sure they get the attention they deserve. This does not apply to cute holiday-themed save the dates. Go ahead and mail those in December.
Unlike a ‘big box’ stationery co. or online template, I’m an actual human and I want to be your stationery side-kick. It's Happy Hour! I teamed up with a new artist for custom watercolor graphics. This cocktail, a French 75, was recently featured on a bar menu for a wedding at the Enoch Pratt Free Library and was given an appropriate literary name, 'Adventures of Huckleberry Gin'.
It's finally starting to feel like fall out there and I'm here for it! This past weekend I helped at a wedding at the Fairmont Horticulture Center and I absolutely loved all the fall colors incorporated into the florals. I snapped some pictures and told myself, this needs to be a color scheme.

I spend a lot of time trying to explain this one to clients. Mrs. is a pretty out-dated title, so if you are going to use it, please use it correctly. If you'd like to take a modern approach to addressing your guests scrap the titles all together. I have clients send me 'Mr. John and Mrs. Jane Smith' or 'Mrs. Jane Smith' all the time.
How to write it correctly:

You've spent more money then you'd care to admit on this celebration but when it comes down to the menus..probably the least expensive item in the budget you say - ehh, who cares? I'll just use whatever they caterer gives me.
Well friends, this is a prime example of you get what you pay for. The 'not this' menu was spotted by a planner I frequently work with and it was included in the catering package. The person who designed this, and I use the word design lightly, simply didn't care. They whipped it up and spit it out without a second thought.
They spelled rehearsal incorrectly
They spelled potatoes incorrectly, twice
The spacing is straight up cringe
Sometimes they used 'and', other times they used '&'
Wording is redundant for the main entrees.
Headings are inconsistent
Don't get me started on the weird pink color.
The menu is a statement piece that makes or breaks your table scape. Don't skimp out on this finishing touch, it shows when you do.

After a long hiatus, I'm dipping my toe back into the custom design pool. It's been inspiring to break away from my templated designs and start with a blank canvas. The biggest change since 2015 when I took a step back is the switch to virtual meetings. I've stumbled my way through the first few. I wasn't sure how to recreate the experience of flipping through a book of sample, like we did when we met in person. My big project this month was figuring that out. Scrap the rsvp card entirely and having guests rsvp online only. I'm 100% ok with this because RSVP cards were never supposed to be included with an invitation in the first place. In the day of engraved invitations guests would reply on their own using personalized stationery. I have struggled a bit with the verbiage because saying 'on the website' has gotten a bit redundant. I think this will be my new 'keep it simple' wording.
When I got the chance to preview Megan and Matthew's wedding photos the first thing that jumped out at me was the beautiful pop of color.
When I first spoke to them about invitations they knew they wanted something simple and classic, possibly black and white. I suggested a layered invitation with the smallest pop of copper to add a sophisticated touch. It was lovely to see how that little something extra was carried throughout the day.

A cocktail napkin with an on-point pun, a monogram, or even fun facts about the bride and groom are one of those personal touches I always talk about.
DIY templates that you download off of Etsy have become a popular option for day of stationery. Unfortunately, templates cannot answer your questions, tell you when details are missing, personalize the design for you, offer advice on wording and etiquette, or guide you on print methods and paper. The NOT THAT design was recreated to imitate an itinerary I recently saw that was obviously DIY’ed.
I re-designed to create the DO THIS version. Here are some of the major issues with the template version that I spotted and corrected:
• The background was too dark/busy to easily read the information.
• It'd be a nice touch to have the bride and groom's name on the design.
• The text lacked clear organization making it difficult to skim. It should have clear headings, broken down by day and then event.
• Spacing and formatting is inconsistent.
• They forgot to include pertinent details like the reception time and location and their website URL.
I’m well-versed is weddings and events and can easily spot inconsistencies and missing details that your guests will need to know. I’m an actual human, and I will make this the easiest part of your planning.

I've got a party planning hack for you. When it comes to decorations, save yourself a trip to the party store. Skip the streamers and dangling punch out paper decorations. No one needs decorations that are going to end up in the garbage at the end of the party. Instead, invest in a statement piece.
