Last night came a lot closer to ending our season. Jack Frost's artistry was everywhere.
The good news is that everything in our hoop houses emerged unscathed, and the eucalyptus can take a frost. Watch Sunday for what's still available.
A big thank you to all our florists who came out this week to buy flowers. I love knowing they are still out there spreading joy.

I took a wander around the farm as the sun rose this morning, on the lookout for frost. There were light patches on the grass, but I had to look long and hard to find a flower decorated by Jack Frost.
It looks like we will get to enjoy summer's bounty for one more day.

Mike is out snipping off the sweet potato vines while I am cutting what may well be our very last order of the 2024 season if we get hit by frost tonight.
I am absolutely soaking in every last bit of color and sunshine.

Well, folks, it looks like the end is nigh. The forecast looks pretty dicey for the night time temperatures midweek. We will be here and available for pickup orders Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday. However, tomorrow is the only day we are guaranteed to not get some degree of frost. We have a surprising amount still available for mid-October, though quantities of any one variety are limited, so we will be taking orders on a first-come, first-served basis.
*Dusty Miller- This crop is looking incredible. We have enough gorgeous Dusty for several weddings!
*Flamingo feather
*Celosia - a few bunches of mixed colors remain
*Snaps- limited mixed bunches
*Lisianthus- white, green, pink, apricot, lavender, purple. (Some of the pink is 3 feet tall!)
*Gomphrena / globes- plentiful in all colors
*Dahlias- a bunch or two of all colors
*Ageratum- large, tall and plentiful
*Salvia- beautiful
*Cosmos- plentiful in pink, some white
*Purple majesty Millet
*Sorghum
*Eucalyptus- plentiful, but shorter stems than we were carrying
*Dianthus
*Zinnias- limited mixed bunches

We are definitely approaching the season's end. We will be around today to the shops in the core of our route centered around Toledo with these treasures.

Unfortunately, we lost some of our last patch of sunflowers to Monday's winds, and only have enough to cover pre-orders.

This is always a bittersweet time of year for us. The respite from the unrelenting workload is undeniably welcome... especially because it overlaps so heavily with all the fall activities we're involved with our kids, not to mention Mike's job as a teacher.

At the same time, we will miss so much over the next months until spring:
- the opportunity to spend all our days outdoors with the birds, the fascinating insects, the frogs, and the dogs
- interacting daily with the beauty and perfection of abundant flowers. Who could ask for a better job?
- our weekly visits to our florists, who greet us with a smile and then make works of art with our flowers, while sharing them with a wider audience. Keep spreading that joy!

Thank heavens for some solid root systems on these plants. We definitely need rain, but still managed to find enough flowers to fill the van to overflowing.
My trusty sidekick and I will be out spreading this beauty all around the 419 today.

Well, the perfect trifecta hit the sunflower crop. Rabbit damage back when they were planted combined with storm damage and a general slowing down with the cool temperatures and shorter days combined to lead to a severe sunflower shortage this week. We have all our pre-orders taken care of, but that left very little for today's general sales. We have no regular dark centered yellow sunflowers for sale today except for pre-orders.
The good news is, the frost predicted for this weekend didn't happen!
