A real life floral fairytale for J+J on 12.7.24.
This was a special one for me for a multitude of reasons.
Planning an event from out of state poses so many more challenges than working in your home city.
From flower ordering, planning installs without seeing the structures in person, getting freelancers, to organizing logistics like strike, studio prep, transportation, etc. — all things that are almost second nature at this point — they take so much longer to plan from afar.
With so many incredibly talented florists in the Los Angeles area, I’m so honored that Amanda, along with her couple, J+J, entrusted me to execute their vision all the way from Portland.
It was by no means my easiest event, but every season, I strive for growth, and this event was the perfect opportunity to challenge myself in ways that ‘working from home’ does not.
The biggest project of this event as a floral designer was planning and executing a floral-filled installation on a 17’ dome. I’m used to doing all sorts of installations, but something this high, with a structure that curves away, required a lot of math, sketches and innovative thinking.
I wanted to do this project foam-free, as I have not used foam once since starting my business officially in 2021. I had people tell me just to use the foam and make it easier on myself and my team, and I won’t lie that I thought about it for a hot second. But, I’m so glad that I stuck to my business ethos and did this entire event foam-free. Y’all, being foam-free, even on large scale events IS possible, and something I’m incredibly proud of.
I have more gratitude than I could ever express for my couple, the planner, other vendors, and my entire team for trusting me, supporting me, and working closely with me to execute this incredible event.
