Hi I’m Kae. Many of you may be wondering who is behind Northwood Films. Well, it’s me! Born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana, and as a kid, I was all about music and basketball. My cousins and I would sample old James Brown records, using cassette tapes to create loops by starting and stopping them just right. My cousin would rap over the loops, and I’d be hyped to hear the final result. Looking back, that was my first taste of being a producer.
As time went on, I met my best friends, and together we formed a hip-hop/pop group. I was the producer, and they handled the rapping and singing. We even landed some cool opportunities along the way. After college basketball, I dove deeper into producing for other artists. But life happened, and I put my creative passions on hold for a corporate job.
Years later, the itch to create again wouldn’t go away. That’s when I started DJing weddings on the side, a gig that lasted five years and introduced me to some amazing people. One of those people was a super-talented videographer. His work lit a creative fire in me and it still does.
I already had a camera and knew the wedding scene from being a DJ, so in 2012 I posted a $300 wedding video ad on Craigslist. That one ad changed everything, and the rest, as they say, is history.
