We've got 2 fantastic events coming up fast and could use volunteers! Below is the link to the first event in July, the Back Cove Backyard Ultra. Volunteering is a fantastic way to get involved and give back to Runaways Run Club, plus you get to cheer on runners taking on big goals! Please consider helping out, as small races like ours depend on volunteers. THANK YOU!

It was a good day to have a great day at the inaugural Back Cove Backyard Ultra! What a debut! From the first lap to the final pair it was epic! 36 people at the start, 10 distance PRs, and 21 hours later we had our last person standing. Huge congrats to David for a powerful finish after 21 laps & 87.5 miles, and to Whitney for an incredible display of strength and savvy before deciding to pull the plug after 20 laps & 83.2 miles. So impressive!

Nothing happens without the volunteers, thank you to everyone who pulled a shift, or just stopped by with encouraging words, ice, food, or popsicles & beer! We love you!

That’s a wrap for the 2022 Tiny Trails 5k series! Yesterday’s Lowell Preserve 5k was the cherry on top with great weather and perfect trail conditions.

Huge thanks to American Trail Running Association and Nancy for joining us and putting together this fun recap! We’re proud to be an ATRA member and appreciate the work they do to elevate trail running and increase access and equity in this space.

Training for a spring race? Yeah, we hear that.

It's up there https://thegrindrunco.com/grind-blog/whose-idea-was-this-anyway/

If you’re living in the Northeast and training for a spring race, you’re probably questioning your own sanity right about now. It’s cold, dark, the footing is treacherous, and it’s harder to convince your accountabilibuddies to join you. Even as the days begin to get longer, it’s still dam...

Ah, here we go again. Winter in the Northeast is nothing to take lightly, so here are our tips to survive and thrive in winter. Accountabilibuddies: Find some friends who are equally dedicated to outdoor running in the freezing cold, rain, sleet, wind, snow, and ice. It’s infinitely easier, and sa...

Now that winter is closing in, what are your off season plans?

https://thegrindrunco.com/grind-blog/easing-into-the-off-season/

It’s hard to believe we’re in the final months of 2021. It feels like just yesterday we were heading into spring with fresh trails, rested legs, and a season full of races! Unlike 2020, many of us were likely able to run at least one or two races this season, as the regression of COVID-19 and in...

Fall is arguably the best running weather, and trails are a great way to take in the views as the seasons change! New to trails, or new to Portland? Here are a few of our suggestions in the Greater Portland area!

There’s no better running than trail running, in my opinion. The terrain is varied, trails are almost never crowded, and in the summer months, it’s way cooler than baking on the pavement. Of course, it’s often rocky, rooty, muddy, or poorly marked, but that’s half the fun! You have to be pre...

We are committed to the communities in which we run. We partner annually with the City of Portland and local businesses to hold a plog on the streets we run. We make a point of volunteering time and energy to help make our local trails accessible, safe, and free of debris. We also organize events and runs on local trails, helping to bring awareness to the incredible resources available right outside of our doors. We contribute funding when we are able, to give back in support of the conservation and maintenance of these trail systems. We have made a donation today to the Forever Conserve Lowell Preserve Project via the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust, and invite you to consider doing whatever you can to support this project, or another local-to-you trail preservation effort. Trails are a precious resource in our increasingly hectic world, and access to them will continue to be important and meaningful. Please don't take them for granted!

https://www.prlt.org/lowellproject

With your help, Lowell Preserve can be conserved forever by the Presumpscot Regional Land Trust, while continuing to be owned by the Town of Windham, with a shared collaboration that will ensure open space for outdoor recreation and wildlife habitat for generations.

Hard decisions to make, even when you know they’re the right ones...

https://thegrindrunco.com/grind-blog/knowing-when-to-drop-out-tuning-in/

Like so many other runners, 2020 put a hard stop to any goals I had for potential races. As a runner very new to the ultra-running scene (and running in general), I felt the inevitable letdown of “well, now what?” I was trained. I was running volumes and speeds I hadn’t achieved before, and I ...
