Love began in a garden. So goes many creation stories. In our little garden, Lauren and Megan started their new lives in love together this past Saturday. Everything was perfect, from the weather, to our garden's blooms, to our chickens being quiet and respecting the sanctity of the ceremony. Lauren and Megan were looking for a small garden setting for their ceremony and booked us just a month ago. Lauren is part Apache and her mother performed an Apache blanket ceremony as part of the wedding. Noreena made seed packets to toss after the vows and our chickens enjoyed those seeds after the ceremony. They had a toast with their family and friends in attendance and were on their way to their reception in about an hour. Thanks to Belle Fiori, Ltd. for their flowers and to Lauren and Megan for making us a special part of their day.

At each wedding we try to capture a unique aspect of each couple's personality. Eric and Lynn are art lovers. They also created a new mixed family since both had kids from previous marriages. After a simple courthouse ceremony, we proceeded to the Saint Kate Hotel for their dinner. We captured a few more traditional group portraits but then I wanted to do something fun that showed their interest in art. I had them look at me as if I was a provocative piece of art on the wall and captured the second portrait.

Another wonderful wedding for a wonderful couple. Congratulations to Sarah and Kyle who had a perfect day for their wedding at The Gage in West Allis. When we met them last year, they wanted their celebration to be their focus and not too many portraits. We kept it simple and utilized The Gage's wonderful architecture for some portraits while keeping our focus on what was most important - their wedding. They utilized all three of our primary services with our full day photography, ceremony video, and a photo booth for some fun memories throughout the night. Thanks again Sarah and Kyle for making us a part of your day.

I love my career. I started early, here I am photographing my first 4th of July parade the summer before I turned three. Those Fisher Price cameras were very light but the lenses weren't too sharp.

I started creating B&W images when I started as a photographer in the 1980s. It's not an old look, it's a classic look that brings a different sense and emotion to the image. Let me bring some of this look to your wedding.

I've been enjoying many sunsets this summer. Besides the sunset itself, the setting sun can provide some very nice light with which to photograph. Here's a favorite portrait I made with a low sun. It's warm and inviting, just like the couple and their love.

A big congratulations and thanks to Samantha and Eric for hosting their wedding in our studio's garden yesterday. We had some rain in the morning but by the afternoon it was a most perfect day. This couple was looking for an secluded garden setting for their intimate wedding, our urban Cream City Garden fit the bill perfectly. They selected one of our packages where we provide our garden, my photography, and an officiant. My new honeycomb trellis fit perfectly and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and the celebration. Samantha's mom is a caterer and make some light fare for after the ceremony and I have to give a big shout out to Belle Fiori, Ltd. for providing us with some of the floral as they regularly do. We host events in the garden June through early October, when everything is in bloom. If you're looking for an intimate garden venue please give us a call.

A good reminder with some good tips here. I'll put it this way, this is the bride and groom's day. Respect them and enjoy participating in THEIR wedding. Don't make it about you. This is a sacred ceremony and milestone in their lives, not a TikTok moment.

Gallery Night and Day at Cream City Gallery.

We're hosting another Gallery Night and Day event at our Cream City Gallery on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22, 2023. Our dear friend, acclaimed artist, and retired Grafton art teacher, Marcia Gorra-Patek will be the featured artist in our gallery.

Marcia always looked very carefully at the small details of her visual environment. She has been fascinated by lines, shapes, colors, and textures of things in front of her, since earliest memories of childhood. Somewhere, along the way, music and literature and art took up residence in her head, heart and hands.

Throughout these years, Marcia has developed the idea of one special fruit, the Pear, as an allegory for women. And, as details of travel, research and well, just life, continued to be observed by her, she became aware of more amazing women that have since become respected examples of heretofore unknown heroines. Great Pears of Herstory is a recent collection of works resulting from the beginning of this journey.

Cream City Gallery will be open and you'll be able to meet Maria and see her thought provoking art Friday the 21st from 4 to 9PM and Saturday the 22nd from noon to 5PM. We're at 1036 S 5th Street in Milwaukee's historic Walker's Point. There are seven galleries up and down 5th Street featuring local artists from our corner on Washington Street up to the Iron Horse Hotel at 5th and Florida. There are also several breweries and restaurants in the neighborhood to make for a delicious evening and afternoon. Come to the Point and get your art on.

A big, big, big, big congratulations to our dear friend and chief officiant for Cream City, Mrs. Kate Schulz and her new husband Alex. It was such an honor to be part of their big day. I've known and worked with Kate for years and she's been through so much to come to this point where she's now celebrating her own love and marriage instead of just others'. Through everything she's been a very dedicated and loving mother and to see how her daughter played such an important role in this special day and this new family was so heart warming. Besides being a beautiful day, it was a beautiful celebration for this beautiful new family. Congratulations again and thank you for letting us be a part of your day.

These articles are always worth reading to see what's trending. But remember, trends are just that, trends. Who are you and what is your personality? Make your own trend by just being yourself.

As far as photography, while it's nice to see that candid, more natural photography is trending back, it's what we've always done. Yes we pose some key family, wedding party and important guest photos, but in capturing your wedding, the day is not about posing or a stylistic trend, it's about you and your celebration. We continue to capture your day creatively yet unobtrusively to preserve the spirit and style of your day. It's just what we do.

The other trend about disposable cameras; I say don't waste your money. As professionals, yes, we can be there for you to capture the fun, excitement and even behind the scenes moments of your day. But if you'd like to share in the photos your guests may take as well, set up a hashtag or cloud account where they can upload their images. It costs less and there's less waste, just fun photos they're already taking with their phones.

Enjoy your wedding and have a great 2023.

From colorful decorations to thoughtful touches like disposable cameras, here are the ceremony and bridal trends we can expect to see next year.

When I first read this, I thought, "really, are these songs that bad? Let people dance to what they want." After you look at the lyrics though, it is something you might want to consider. It's nice they give some alternatives to songs they're saying no to.

These songs might sound OK at first listen, but we'll show you why they don't belong anywhere near your first dance.

Hmmmm, what to wear, what to wear. Getting dressed for a wedding these days might seem a little difficult. Here is a list of 9 dress codes that you should know and when to follow. I do like some basic common sense ones like: You can rule out super-formal attire like tuxedos and evening gowns unless specifically noted on the invitation; Don't wear white, especially if you're wearing a dress; Finally, follow the rules for a dressy casual or semi-formal dress code, which are the sweet spots when it comes to looking polished but not too fancy. After all, it is a wedding, not just a house party.

If you just received a wedding invitation in the mail, bookmark this wedding dress codes guide to make sure you're dressed appropriately for the occasion.

Cream City’s Story

In 2011, two of Milwaukee's most experienced wedding photographers set out to shake up the industry. With all of the changes brought about by digital technologies, brides actually had an even tougher time finding the right person to capture the memories of their day. Do they select an established photographic artisan who had limited availability and a higher price, or did they choose one of the hundreds of photo enthusiasts with a new digital camera, rock bottom prices and little experience? Cream City brought together a team of trusted, creative, and experienced local professionals into a studio setting offering the ability to serve multiple brides per weekend at much more affordable prices. This concept provides a win-win opportunity for all involved. Founders Kim and Scott could focus on directly serving brides and managing the business with their combined 50+ years of experience. The team of photographers, videographers and DJs could focus on their craft and the details of each event without having to manage the business and spend additional hours in post production. And brides finally had a one-stop studio to find the best photographers, videographers and DJs in Southeast Wisconsin at very affordable prices. Come check out our web site, galleries and social media and see how Cream City is brewing up beautiful and affordable weddings for brides throughout the area. You can book us right on line or visit one of our two studios in Downtown Milwaukee's Historic Walker's Point or at our western studio in the heart of Waukesha's Lake Country.
