I drew this in 2001 and still have it in my memory box. I turned 13 not even a month before which is young enough to live in innocence and "ignorance is bliss" yet old enough to comprehend the significance that day changed the trajectory of not only America but the world.
If you don't know, I have a collection of souvenir spoons and this is one I never took out to display in one of the cases. We took a trip August 2001 and although us kids were bummed we didn't get to climb the steps of the World Trade Center I remember walking past. I wasn't sure if I wanted a Statue of Liberty Spoon or the skyline with the towers and I'm glad I opted for this one.
"Never Forget" is the phrase heard on 9/11, but to truly reflect that day, the impact now as an adult, and reminisce the one period in my lifetime of having a sense of being united and patriotic goes beyond acknowledging that it happened.
