Motolink Memorabilia from World & National Championship Motocross Events, AMA National Hare Scrambles, & AMA National Dualsport Events Promoted by Motolink

Motolink started out as a motocross-focused, sports marketing agency founded by Greg Baumann. Shortly after its inception, Motolink and Roger DeCoster joined forces, born of a shared vision to return the 500cc USGP to its former glory. It was a partnership that lasted only four years, but which succeeded in elevating the presentation of the sport and broadening its appeal to a wider audience. Foll

owing the phase-out of the 500cc class in 1992, Motolink switched gears and replaced the USGP with an AMA sanctioned, 125/250cc National in 1993. That event was dubbed "MotoFest '93" and is historic in that it served as a one-time test for a new Supercross-style, main-event format in lieu of the traditional two-moto format as was customary at outdoor events. The goal of the MotoFest format experiment was to facilitate expanded TV coverage of the AMA National Motocross Series, but despite those good intentions, the concept failed to gain traction with the riders, or win the hearts of hard-core fans. In the end, the plan to permanently switch the series from the old format to the new format beginning with the 1994 season was scrapped by the AMA. As the saying goes, "all good things must come to and end" and such was the case with the relationship between Motolink and Glen Helen. Following contentious contract negotiations to continue hosting the event at Glen Helen, Motolink opted to relinquish its sanctioning rights to the event when terms for continuing the arrangement beyond 1993 couldn't be reached. This fan page was created to share photos, videos, behind-the-scenes stories and other memorabilia from the following events promoted by Motolink:

After promoting the 500cc USGP (Motocross World Championship) from 1990 through 1992, Roger and I lobbied the AMA to switch us to the 125cc/250cc AMA National Motocross calendar for 1993 due the waning popularity of the 500cc World Championship. Roger felt that the traditional two-moto format was an impediment to the sport receiving the live television coverage it deserved, so we petitioned the AMA to use our first National as an experiment to gauge how riders, fans, and sponsors would react if the outdoor series were to be converted from the age-old two-moto format to the modern-day Supercross format in which heat races would be run to determine which 40 riders would make the grid for a live-televised main event). Although the event was a success in terms of attendance and live-television coverage, Roger's experiment would go down in history as a huge flop with hardcore motocross fans (and a majority of riders), thus MotoFest '93 would go down in history as the one and only AMA Outdoor National ever to be conducted under such a format. For the record, I was opposed to the idea from the beginning, but who was I to argue with "The Man?" For reasons totally unforeseen and unrelated to the aforementioned experiment, MotoFest '93 would be the last event Roger and I would ever promote. https://youtu.be/we1OselQm7A
