On , I ask all my fellow Hmong Americans, Southeast Asian Americans, and allies to continue mobilizing and CONTACT Gov Gavin Newsom and local elected officials to restore ESSENTIAL FUNDING for FAMILY FARMS like ours at GT Florists & Herbs who have nourished us through a global pandemic, unprecedented drought, and catastrophic flooding.

Now is NOT the time for these emergency and disaster relief dollars to be cut - restore $17.9m to CUSP for drought and flood support!

Now is NOT the moment to eliminate essential supply chain infrastructure dollars - restore $14.4m to the Farm to Food Hub Program.

A little more about our family farm: The Thaoxaochays have farmed in the Central Valley for over three decades now moving from a farm stand on their property to wholesale distribution and now maintaining a presence at local farmers markets. We have produced conventional vegetables and herbs for businesses as well as specialty crops such as bittermelon, guava, and jujube for local consumers. In 2010, we learned to grow flowers - mostly dahlias although a rapacious patch of sunflowers always persists.

In the last few years, funding from the CDFA Healthy Soils Program, SWEEP, and CUSP have helped us implement critical climate resiliency practices on our farm. We've benefited from experimenting with cover crops and applying compost to our fields to updating our water infrastructure to be more water efficient, and were able to secure financial relief to offset losses during the pandemic.

We urge you to call Gov Newsom to restore and protect funding for these programs which have so greatly aided us in our time of need and which may yet help other farmers.

Farm-fam, if you’ve been impacted by covid19, drought, and/or flood; support and/or buy locally from a family farm who faced a natural disaster emergency - we need your help!

Governor Newsom’s revised budget for California proposes the following CUTS:
-$17.9 million from CUSP which administers the most accessible small scale farmer emergency and disaster relief dollars and
-$14.4 million from the Farm to Food Hub Program which will bolster both our businesses and communities.

Please share widely! We are asking for folks to follow the directions from our colleagues at Community Alliance with Family Farmers (CAFF)and contact your local reps today! The budget needs to be approved by June 15th! Your voices matter!

Tell the Governor’s office to reinstate these essential programs for small family farms like ours across the state!

Did you know? We also sell farm fresh chicken and duck (limited) eggs available at our farmers market and on our website for delivery!? 🥚

These eggs come from a small ranch in Easton, CA where the chickens happily reside. Every day they are given organic grains and vegetables from our farm 🐔

Did you know? It's National Farmers Market Week!

We have been attending farmers market for the last 10 years! Prior to that, our parents attended farmers markets in the early 90s when we were wee babies. We have gone to over 10 different markets all in the Central Valley.

As of today, we are only able to handle 3 farmers markets a week (I'll save the explanation for another post in the future 😅) You can find us seasonally at on Wednesday mornings from 9AM-1PM and on Friday night from 5:30PM-8:30PM! You can also always find is in OTC every Saturday morning from 9AM-1130AM
