Back in 2018, I had the privilege of capturing Abby’s liver transplant journey. Having worked as an RN in pediatric intensive care I’ve seen both sides of organ donation: the trauma of families unexpectedly losing a loved one and the abounding joy of families unexpectedly gaining a second chance at life.

For me, these stories are filled with nuance, beauty, and redemption.

celebrated a major milestone, 1 million organ transplants, with a beautiful project telling these stories.

When doing research for the project, they found Abby’s story online and I was honored to see it included in the project! I even had the chance to follow up with Abby and her beautiful family.

The Camp at Old Mill in Chester County, PA, is a beautiful, peaceful place that provides enriching experiences and mentoring for children and adolescents living in Coaetsville, PA. Hailey and Dustin volunteer together at the camp year round and it was the perfect setting for their DIY wedding. The threat of rain couldn’t derail this perfect day. Heavy rains fell while everyone was sheltered inside during the ceremony and then immediately cleared, allowing everyone was able to fully enjoy the beautiful grounds and amazing hand-crafted details. As photographer and a mom, I am trying to be more intentional about documenting our days. Our real-life-fun-messy-chaotic-frustrating-joyful-spirited every day lives that are par for the course when you are raising small kids. Being a mom has really changed how I view family photography. I love and value having nice portraits of my family. But I’ve found the images I love the most are real, unscripted moments of my family. They aren’t “perfect” photos but they are real, intimate, and so incredibly special to have documented. Knowing how much those images mean to me (and how much more they will mean to me in 20 years), I am so excited to capture them for other families.
