It’s just a mic stand. When I was younger, I would play radio DJ on our enclosed front porch. I had broken record players, a mixer, and a bunch of random equipment. Over time, I collected CDs and vinyl. I was committed to making this my profession. Someone once told me I couldn’t do it, and looking back, their reason was shocking yet so dumb. I can’t believe I listened to them.

One birthday, my parents bought me a mic stand and a microphone. I never ended up doing anything with it. Then Linkin Park was on the rise. Seeing Hahn mixing was so inspiring, but I didn’t have the confidence, though the ambition was there. Phil Phest eventually came to be, and over the years, I kept this mic stand. Now, as an entertainer, this mic stand holds a special place in my heart. It’s my mic stand.

When it comes to a wedding, there are many layers to the approach of the music. There is a lot of psychology that goes into timelines and the flow of an event. The flow of the timeline and music can truly make or break the vibe you are looking for. Today, we’re going to discuss how to successfully pack a dance floor and have those epic weddings most couples are looking for:

1. Doors Open: When guests enter the main reception space, the music must be upbeat and fun. We play those classic songs we all know and love but don’t necessarily dance to.
2. Specialty: These are the songs you select for introductions, special dances, traditions, etc.
3. Dinner: Depending on the number of guests and the serving style (plated, buffet, etc.), we recommend limiting these songs to about seven or less. The reason is below!
4. Build-up: This is typically when most guests are served but are waiting for the dance floor to open. Going straight from dinner music to dance doesn’t set a fun vibe. Here, we play songs that are more current but not preferred for a peak dance set. This is also a time to get a feel for the crowd and their preferences. In my opinion, this is the most important set of the evening as it sets the excitement for the remainder of the wedding.
5. Dance: Need we say more? We encourage couples to provide as much music as possible. Let’s be honest, you know you and your guests’ tastes best. We highly encourage keeping your guests’ preferences in mind as well. Not a music nerd like us? That’s OK! We know how to read the crowd and pack a dance floor—the reviews speak for themselves!

On Monday we were delighted to present J.O. Spice with the Maryland Icon Award. This recognition celebrates their outstanding performance and dedication to the bracket contest held in March.

In celebration of this achievement, we hosted an event for the incredible J.O. Spice team. The festivities included a variety of treats and activities, such as pizza, drinks, a photo booth, and music. It was a fantastic opportunity to acknowledge their hard work and commitment.
