Another great Erie Family Health Centers Eriedescence event, Spring into Summer! So exciting to have such an excellent turnout with guests eagerly participating in the game booths, silent auction, wine pull, delicious food vendors, and more.
This year, their monetary goal was exceeded yet again! This time, $250K was surpassed by an impressive $58K, sending over $308K to Erie's health education and the social determinants of health programs impacting 89,000 patients.

Looking for an organization to support this month? The organization I’m a part of, KWOE Group, LLC Foundation, is one of 30+ groups coming together for the Brilliance and Excellence, B/E Movement!
Next weekend - 𝗦𝗔𝗧𝗨𝗥𝗗𝗔𝗬, 𝗝𝗨𝗡𝗘 𝟴𝗧𝗛 - B/E is holding 2nd their annual Brilliance and Excellence March and Opportunity Fair, kicking off at the corner of Madison Avenue and Kilpatrick Avenue! Vendors will be stationed at the route's end, 100 North Central Park Avenue, providing youth with job opportunities and resources, supporting their mission 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝘄𝗰𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲/𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗕𝗼𝘆𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗴 𝗠𝗲𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗼𝗿 (𝗕𝗬𝗠𝗢𝗖) 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗲𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀.
Through targeted one-mile walks, the Brilliance and Excellence Movement promotes its mission to promote non-violence and inspire Black and Brown youth engagement in alternative activities, magnifying the message and mission of its subsidiary campaign, "No More Violence."

This Memorial Day, we want to highlight "Above and Beyond," a memorial here in Chicago installed on this day over 20 years ago. The display was commissioned by the National Veterans Art Museum and created by veterans Rick Steinbock, Ned Broderick, Joe Fornelli, and Mike Helbing.
Located at the Harold Washington Library, “Above and Beyond” is the only memorial other than one in Washington's D.C. that represents each U.S. serviceperson killed in action during the war. The piece displays 58,307 dog tags, all hand-stamped using an old military machine, with the name, date of death, and military branch of the deceased service members. A single black tag serves as a memorial for “soldiers who died from conditions related to service during the Vietnam War.”
May this display so profound remind you of the debt that we can never fully repay!

If you're interested in sustainable party favors and decor, consider an activity like DIY floral arrangements! Display vases of flowers and fillers, then encourage your guests to create custom bouquets to take home. An additional tip? Spend the weeks prior collecting vases, coffee or teapots, or other vessels from thrift stores to show off your blooms!

As I'm sure a lot of you know, Millie Bobby Brown and Jake Bongiovi got engaged last year, but you may not know who they've chosen as their wedding planner!..well, not exactly. However, if they 𝘩𝘢𝘥 asked, here's the wedding we'd have planned for them!
𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗻 - Millie's Instagram is full of airy lightness that emulates that lively freshness of springtime year-round. So, what better season to celebrate Millie's and Jake's undying love for one another than the season in which everything starts anew?
𝗪𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 - Fulham Palace in West London is a historic country house with something to offer both our bride and groom. Luscious landscaped gardens and a fountain-centered courtyard for Millie, and dark, medieval-style architecture for Jake.
𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 - As evidenced by 2024 party trends, stacked pastels are a 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 this year and fit our girl Millie to a tee (Hello, Florence by Mills). Springtime weddings 𝘰𝘣𝘷𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘭𝘺 mean florals, and more is more. Elegant, classic, and sophisticated, just like our couple!
- To pair with the airiness of the pastels and the romantic country house filled with bouquets, Millie's dress should have a fun, whimsical nature. We see her in a classic white gown with an ethereal feel. Perhaps a removable puff-sleeve and overskirt for that second reception look, and her hair flowing down her shoulders to echo the whimsy. The gals will be in lavender, an homage to her successful brand, in textured, mismatched styles.
- As for classic, edgy Jake, a fitted black tux with shining satin lapels, white button-up, and black satin bowtie are the perfect complement. Finally, to accentuate the couple's rock and roll edge, his and hers high-top Converse.
- Millie is an animal lover, and her best friend (other than Jake) is her adorable pup, Winnie! Of course, Winnie doubles as flower girl and ring bearer, fitted in a flower crown to cart the rings. They'll indulge on a gorgeous, white tiered wedding cake surrounded by lush flowers, and receive their well-wishes on a telephone guest book.

Just one week left until the big game! Need some inspo for your upcoming Super Bowl party? Try a pulled pork and mac bar like this one from City Barbeque!
There's a lot to be said for pulled pork and mac and cheese. They're both super easy dishes (shoutout - Crock-Pot), and they can be made in bulk to feed a crowd! And, they're the perfect customizable dishes.
Serve them up with toppings for your guests to choose from, your basics like diced onions, shredded cheese, bacon bits, or go crazy with jalapeños or crispy onions! Everyone's a winner with tasty combos like these. 🏈

On February 7th, 1926, the father of Black history, Carter G. Woodson, declared the creation of "Negro History Week" with the intent to encourage and expand the teaching of Black history in schools. He chose February for the birthdays of famous abolitionists, Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln, and for National Freedom Day on February 1st. By the 1940s, schools in Woodson's home state of West Virginia had stretched the celebrations throughout the month, and by the '60s, demand for proper Black history was widespread across the country. The idea of Black History Month was proposed by Kent State's Black United Students in 1969, and the first event was celebrated in 1970. During the U.S. bicentennial, 50 years after Woodson's declaration of "Negro History Week," President Gerald Ford officially recognized Black History Month in 1976. Now, almost 50 years later, Black History Month is celebrated across the country! So, how are you celebrating this historic month? Here are some ideas:
- Support Black-owned businesses and Black vendors
- Listen to Black music and learn about its history
- Watch Black history documentaries
- Support Black media
- Read Black authors to yourself and your children
- Visit a Black or African American history museum
- Donate to Black organizations and charities
- Attend your local Black History Month events
Black history is 𝘈𝘮𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘯 history and it's not just made in February. Celebrations are accessible to you wherever you are and should be done joyfully!
