Hello! My name is Gaurang. While Rang is in my name, Rang also means "color" that represent the abundance of colors flowing naturally in my Indian heritage. It’s always tough writing about oneself.. so I decided to answer a few questions to better describe myself.
What is your favorite color?
My favorite color is blue. On one boring afternoon in India, my sister, brother and I wondered what would be our favorite color? My sister automatically picked Green maybe because she liked anything green whether it was squash or apples. My brother then went next and picked out Red… he must have seen a marble that had red in it. Finally, it was my turn. I looked around, looked down and then looked up... all I can see was soft clouds rolling by in the bright blue sky. Ever since then, any games that we played that dealt with color, like the game “Sorry” or the “Game of Life” we had our respective colors.
Ever heard of “CHiPs”? I have had more than one person comment that I look like Eric Estrada, when he was on this show as the “Ponch”. So, it stuck… If I could be any celebrity it would be Eric Estrada.
Where do you see yourself in the future?
Years from now when my three kids are older and more self-sufficient, I plan on taking on maybe a part-time Professor at a University. By the time they are older, it would be great to have free education, that is if they want to go to a University their dad works at.
What are 3 words that describe yourself?
Fatherly – My 3 girls keep me busy and I think I have had good practice at being fatherly.
Friendly – I can talk to anyone and willing to help anyone who needs it.
Teacher – I have an innate tendency to start learning an teaching to anyone at any time.
What are 3 words that describe your school?
Long – I went to Rutgers University in New Jersey where I studied Sociology part-time. Took a bit longer then the average student who went full time. But, I did it and received my Sociology degree then went onto to finish my Masers in Education.
Nightly – Night was my best friend at the school. Working full-time as a clerk at another college left me to take tons of night classes and studying at night was a little bit more fun... especially when a group of us would cram for exams.
Food Trucks – The staple of any college kid’s nutritional “Foodgasm.” They were the very best at Rutgers, you can get Brinner (Breakfast for Dinner) and have a burger for Breakfast if you wanted to.
What is the one misconception that others have of you?
There may be some who may think of me as lazy. But, it’s the absolute contrary. I hustle everyday working full-time for a IT firm at a major Insurance Company, working nights processing photos after I put the kids to bed and shooting photos in the weekends or being with my kids. I absolutely love every day of it and wouldn’t give up any of it. Keeps me very well balanced.
What is your one regret?
One regret that I have is not spending more time and doing things with my mom did while she was still with us on Earth. I absolutely miss her every day, but I know that she is with me in my head and in my heart. When I shoot photos, I tend to focus a bit more to the relationship I see whether they are with mother and daughter; dad and son or just the friends on their wedding day. I feel these family emotions come out very well and are preserved for life.
What is something materialistic that you want right now?
Acura MDX. I have had a mini-van since my twins were 2 years old. Ready to trade that van in that helped us have more room for the kids. But, I won’t... they just love that car too much.
What is your greatest fear?
My greatest fear is losing all of my family’s photos that I have taken for over more than 10 years. So, I backup my photos of them onto 3 different secure cloud servers and I do the same for my client’s photos as well. I think I have amassed almost 2 TB of photos storage and it’s growing every day.
What are 2 things you want to say to 2 different people?
1. “I Love You” to my mother. While she was here, we were never mushy or anything… so, now I look to the heavens and tell her all the time “I Love you!”.
2. “I will always be here for you” to my kids. Everything that I do is for them... the joy that I see in them stays with me when I got to work and when I come back from shooting at weddings or events.
