I was inspired earlier today and here are my thoughts:

As a working professional in multiple arenas we deal with expectations from many sources, families, parents, business', employees, partners, boards, the public, etc. Expectations we have no control over other than offering our help, expertise, and confidence (which can be fragile at times). Through that we weather the storm with backup plans and preparation, that even with the best of our ability may come up short and have unforeseen obstacles; also may require you to return to the drawing board to lick your wounds from quote: “the real world”.

Through this we persevere, we overcome, we push ourselves to exhaustion to provide that experience that we felt “that one time” (or multiple times during our career; if you’re lucky) when we started DJing. The first time we accomplished a task well above our knowledge set from google. We struggle through engineering issues with equipment that was made for what we do but needed our own touch to hit the mark on application.

Through this we deal mental problems, depression from the high’s and low’s of (trying to run our personal lives) while competing in our business careers. The numerous failures before the dawn of systems that work; and hold those emotions and realities in a vault that we carry from gig to gig/project to project perfecting each time through the smallest details; reaching for an dream that some would call obsession.

As DJs, we have the near-impossible task of guaranteeing perfection, done with a smile on our faces, despite the fact that we usually always have SOMETHING working against us.

From unpredictable weather conditions to nonsensical floor plans, congested frequency areas, frustrating load-ins, insufficient power situations, technology mishaps, powering through minor injuries or illness to even our very own insecurities (just to name a few)…it’s never easy.

There are so many qualities we have that go beyond buttery voices and trained hands. The truth is, it takes a special individual to do this job. As problem solvers, creatives, people-pleasers, designers, risk-takers, visionaries, givers, empaths, nerds, organizers, planners, and detail-obsessed perfectionists; we possess incredible strengths that are often underestimated or underappreciated. Ironically this is often our own doing, because what also makes us remarkable is making this all seem effortlessly simple in public view.

Salute the DJs out there who hustle week after week, year after year, with the ability to make it happen no matter what. 🫡 ❤️ Keep doing great things even if it’s harder than you planned.

Hello, my name is Sam Dennison from Destination DJ LLC. Events like these take time, planning, patience, blending vibes and music (not just a playlist actual mixing skills), cultivating an experience that includes everyone from your grandparents to your college/highschool friend groups. We have months of planning to be laser focused on your big DAY!!!

Do you know how many times I've created a moment like this......it's not an accident. It takes experience and skills to seize this moment. It takes patience to build the night to a moment like this. Many people struggle with the costs of the weddings and say why does a DJ cost as much as most photographers. The photographers have 1 day of work and months of editing. Or a planner with months of planning to get to the event. To that I say.....DJs have months of planning as well, and only ONE day to pull off a moment, or a key announcement, or a last second surprise; with excellence and accuracy. THAT LADIES AND GENTS....is why my rates are as much as some of your other vendors. That is why a DJ is one of the most important vendors to the day of "wedding" or "event". There are no do overs, we have to be on point all day, every time we show up. HINT: ask your coordinator or planner how an event goes when the DJ is not as prepared as they should be, thank me later ;-)
