Gotta give it up one time for my guy for co-producing such a beautiful and monumental documentary about what the youth of New Orleans experienced going through hurricane Katrina called “Katrina Babies.”
As so many of the kids in the film said, “nobody asked me how I felt about it,” this story is so important to be told from the lenses of them!
E’Jaaz, you continue to impress me ever since we met at Stanford last year. Your passion for journalism, story telling, and love for cooking is what brought our like minds together, and you bring so much good energy to every cooking class.

High Level Cooking with the Legendary 🤲🏾
Feijoada - this national Brazilian soul food dish was developed by African slaves in South America who were given scraps and leftovers that nobody else wanted. Historically the stew is made with black beans and whatever parts of pork or beef were available and slow cooked until a rich, deep almost purple color has developed.
Since I don’t eat pork I deviated from that recipe and substituted chicken thighs and beef andouille sausages.
Topped with roasted sweet peppers and a tangy chimichurri sauce with some orange slices on the side, my students and I were very satisfied by the time we got to the bottom of our bowls. Definitely worth making AGAIN, it was DELICIOUS!

Great class today! The focus was knife skills + timing + balancing spice, acid, and sweetness + why eating with others is important for our well being. We cooked Thai yellow curry with chicken, assorted squashes from the farm, and toasted cashews. These students did a fantastic job and were VERY excited about the leftovers. 😌

I’ve been practicing mindful cooking for some time now and it’s become a routine.
