Gametime Inflatables specializes in providing fun & safe entertainment for Birthday Parties, BBQ's, Festivals, Corporate Events, Church Events, School, and Camp Functions, Fundraisers, and much more! Gametime Inflatables has been in business for well over 20 years. We will always show up at your event, we will never call and cancel, and will always do our best to make sure your event goes without

incident. We are always investing in new and exciting equipment to make sure you have something new to look forward to year after year! The days of having to choose from the same old equipment every year are over!

For National Retro Day, let’s take a walk down memory lane, and explore the origins of the workhorse of our industry… the humble Bounce House.
The moon bounce, also known as a bounce house, moon walk, or inflatable castle, is a beloved staple of children’s parties and events, but its origins are surprisingly practical. Invented in 1959 by John Scurlock, a mechanical engineer from Shreveport, Louisiana, the concept emerged from his work with inflatable technology. Scurlock was experimenting with inflatable covers for tennis courts when he noticed his employees bouncing on the air-filled structures. This playful discovery sparked an idea.

Scurlock refined the design, creating a fully inflatable, enclosed structure with continuous airflow provided by a blower. His first model, called the "Space Walk," debuted in the early 1960s and was marketed as a recreational device for kids. The name "moon bounce" later caught on, reflecting the bouncy, low-gravity sensation reminiscent of lunar exploration—a timely nod to the space race era.

Initially, Scurlock’s invention was used for commercial rentals and community events, but its popularity soared as manufacturing techniques improved. By the 1970s, moon bounces became backyard party fixtures, evolving into colorful, themed designs. Today, they’re a global phenomenon, blending engineering ingenuity with pure fun. Scurlock’s accidental innovation proves that sometimes the best inventions come from a moment of play.
