Growing flowers will probably always be my #1 favorite way to work with flowers. There’s something so magical about going out into your yard, harvesting, then arranging something that you grew yourself.
I wish flower gardening was as popular as vegetable gardening for the following reasons:
• Flower gardening is GUILT FREE! I tried to grow veggies for a couple seasons and would be overcome with shame when I didn’t harvest quick enough and things went bad on the vine. Or, heaven forbid, rotted right there on the counter. 💀 This does not happen with flower gardening because even if you don’t cut your flowers, you still got to enjoy them in the yard! You can’t do it wrong.
• Poring over seed/bulb catalogues next to a fire with a warm drink in the Winter is a very particular simple pleasure. These ranunculus were grown from corms from and they are blowing me away! Ranunculus can be tricky in Utah but these are performing their little hearts out!
• Winter sowing is so fun, rewarding, and scratches that itch I have to be a pioneer.
• My kids enjoy flower gardening with me and I can let them play with the flowers for free.
• It’s the perfect excuse to build up my ever-growing collection of vessels. This antique beauty is from and I’m in love!

I never keep flowers on hand. I don’t have a cooler so it doesn’t make sense for me to store them unless an order has already been placed.
But oh, how grateful was I yesterday to have a basement full of flowers for an upcoming event. I got a text from someone yesterday on Memorial Day whose friend had a very tragic, unexpected event and asking if there was any way I could make something for them because they just couldn’t show up for this friend empty-handed. They had tried all the local floral shops but they were closed for the holiday and were desperate to find something to show some love to this friend.
I’m thankful that flowers continue to be a way for me to play a small part in being there for people in their most sacred moments, whether those moments are beautiful or terrible.
I hope the love these flowers were given in was some small comfort to the one who received them.

I got to provide the Mother’s Day flowers for our stake center this year. I found myself thinking about all the lovely women we get to live around. Women who care about our family, love my children, and are ready to share their many talents with their neighbors whenever called upon.
I hope these added a little beauty their Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day to the woman who taught me to romance the ordinary and build myself a life full of beauty. She’s the best mom, grandma, and friend.
She’s been my best example of a woman who shows her love for her family through her time and attention while also prioritizing her own education, growth, and development.
I pretend it annoys me when people mistake her for my sister and constantly tell me how fashionable she is. But really, I love it. 😜

Mother’s Day orders are closed! 💕
Plans for the weekend are to lay down for the next 30 minutes. Pick my kids up from school. And then arrange, arrange, arrange for the following 11 hours! (Cautiously optimistic I’ll be in bed by midnight).
Bloom baskets, church centerpieces, baptism centerpiece, bouquets, and maybe even a little something just for me.
So excited to get all the incoming creations to their new homes. Have an amazing Mother’s Day weekend everyone!

Let’s learn about one of my favorite flowers—
Hellebores!
Hellebores have a weird name and that’s okay, because they’re kind of a weird flower. They’re also called Lenten Roses but in my experience, no one calls them by that name.
By no one, I mean the handful of people I’ve come across who even know about them. These beauties are criminally under appreciated and not well known by most people. Let’s change that! Here are a few of my favorite facts about hellebores:
1. Hellebores come into bloom when everything else is dead. They are tough as nails and will come up right through the snow. Some varieties bloom in January and will continue sending out fresh buds all spring.
2. Those beautiful star burst petals are not petals at all. They’re sepals. A modified leaf that feels sort of leathery to the touch and is tough enough to stand up to the harshest weather.
3. It’s not too late for you to enjoy these in your garden these year. I’ll be sharing more about hellebores in my stories if you want to learn about how to incorporate them into your cut garden or landscape!

Her shop is one of a kind and one of the best kept secrets in Bluffdale. I’ve found that flower people are often also antique people, and Robin has the best stuff around.

As promised, here’s a how-to guide on how to store fresh cut peonies in the fridge for up to ✌🏼months. Yes, 2 months!! Peony season is fleeting, but your enjoyment of these incredible flowers doesn’t have to be. A couple things I didn’t mention in the video— • Check your peonies for mold every now and then and if you see any, discard the molded buds and rewrap the viable buds in fresh paper towels. • When you’re ready to use them, take them out of the fridge and trim the stems at an angle. Put them in water and they’ll bloom in a few days just like if you had cut them fresh! Anyone planning to try this? I barely caught my peonies in time before they had all blown open so if you are, get a move on and let me know how it goes! Happy peony preserving!
