💝Repeat after me, “Planning a wedding is fitness training for a strong marriage…” Remember your “why” and the rest is details. Surrounding yourself with those (friends, fam and stellar vendors) who will point you back to your “why” is just as vital.
Before my couples walk down the aisle, I meet with each party individually (or together, if you’ve had a First Look!). We take a deep breath, let go of the curveballs or tensions and REMEMBER YOUR WHY.
🪄Then I give you this sweet tip to try at the altar: Stand close enough to hold hands with arms relaxed (don’t worry about blocking the officiant - it’s not about us, it’s YOUR moment!), gaze into each other’s eyes and occasionally squeeze each other’s hands. Then you will not miss a moment standing at your altar as you step into marriage together. Your ceremony is your literal launch of your marriage - you want to take in every moment with each other.
This also takes out the nerves of “being on stage” or “being in the spotlight” because it’s just the two of you and your officiant having an intimate conversation (if your officiant does their job right!). It’s not a performance.
You don’t have to be one of those couples who says “I don’t even remember standing at the altar.” Breaks my heart to hear this so often from couples I didn’t marry. 💔
These are things to talk to your officiant about. Make sure you can stand this close, without a mic stand being in the way, or the officiant needing to be the center of attention. If you have a new officiant (say a friend or relative), give them the best tools to help make your time at the altar more than you even knew was possible. Make your ceremony memorable for the right reasons!
