It is no secret that most of the events Carlysle Entertainment provides disc jockey, emcee, and event production services for are weddings. We have always taken pride in our reputation as wedding professionals, and we have always believed that everyone deserves the wedding of their dreams. Many businesses and individuals take a moment to recognize Pride Month at the beginning of June, but for us June 26th has a special significance. While we have been a part of the celebration of love as both Unions and Marriages for countless couples June 26th will continue to be a little more special.

Today is World Autism Awareness Day and a unique opportunity to focus on autism acceptance and understanding around the entire globe. As a DJ I have seen hundreds of different wedding favors and some were certainly standouts among others, but the ones that always seem to have the best reaction from the guests were those that had a personal connection to the couple in some way. An old family sugar cookie recipe printed on a card attached to a cookie cutter. A pack of wildflower seeds and a small jar of local wildflower honey, perhaps even from a family or local beehive. Bars of soap made from Goat's Milk from a favorite local farmers market or a family run goat farm. One couple gave out a set of colored pencils with their names and wedding date imprinted on one and their favorite love themed classic old movie quotes printed on the others, because they were both art teachers and loved classic old movies.

The one favor that instantly stood out to me, not just because it was the first time I had ever seen it done, was a "donation in lieu of favors." At every guest's place setting there was a nicely printed note that simply said, "In lieu of a wedding favor that might end up in your junk drawer we made a donation to the Susan G Komen Foundation in your name." On the back of the card was a nice pink ribbon with a stick on backing and another note that read, "Since our newly united families have both lost loved ones to Breast Cancer, please wear this ribbon for the night so they can be here in our hearts."

They even left one of these cards at my table with a handwritten note from the bride that she hoped my mother was doing well. This was because when we first met, she had told me she was running in an upcoming SGK Race For The Cure in honor of her Aunt and I made a pledge to her fundraising in honor of my mother who had recently been diagnosed with breast cancer. That single handwritten sentence meant more to me than a thousand five-star reviews on the internet because she took a moment the week of her wedding, or even on her wedding day, to write that note. I wore the pink ribbon sticker that night and as I was packing up, I put it on the inside of a binder I have for a special set of CDs. Now, over 20 years later you can see that the pink ribbon is still there, even though the binder has seen better days and is literally being held together by gaffer’s tape, plus thankfully my mother is still here as well.

The donation can be to any cause that is special to you and your fiancé, such as a local animal shelter or rescue service, and it does not have to be for a specific amount. If you donated $1.00, or even as much as $5.00, for every guest you could still end up spending less than most wedding favor ideas would cost, while putting that money to good use for a worthy cause.
