My name is Brock, and for years, I traveled the country playing music. A lot of my time on the road was spent in the south, and it was there that I developed an addiction for all things BBQ. Now, I’ve taken my love of Smoked foods, and making people happy, and combined them into what is now known as Smokin Jays! Story behind the name:
After I bought my first smoker, it was pretty easy to convince my friends to come hang out for the weekend. Everybody loved coming to my house, because it was set back in the woods. It was peaceful, and wildlife was everywhere. It seemed that every time I was outside cooking, a bluejay would show up in the tree nearest to me. One day, my friend Curt and I were sitting out at the smoker, enjoying some nice ci**rs as we usually did while cooking, and talking about opening my own place. We were running names by each other, when I looked over and saw this bluejay was in the tree again. I told Curt how it seemed to be there only when I was cooking, and he lit up and said, “That’s it! Smokin Jays BBQ.” After thinking for a minute, I looked back up and said “It’s perfect!”
I try and put myself into everything that is “Smokin Jays BBQ.” In the logo, you see that little friend that always showed up when the smoke was rollin. A cigar, which gets lit after the coals, and in the food, my heart, soul, and passion for bbq done the way it was always intended. Cooked by fire.
