Want to know what a Monday in the life of an event florist is like?
Mondays are busy days which include answering emails/inquiries that came in over the weekend while I was working on wedding installations. Cleaning all vases & candle holders that were used for the past events (have you ever attempted to clean melted wax off of glass vases? It’s extremely labor intensive!).
All the cut stems & foliage are taken to compost pile, and trash & cardboard boxes broken down and taken to dump.
Next we’re tackling those dirty buckets that held all the beautiful flowers… they need to be washed & sanitized as does the cooler and anything else that had contact with the flowers.
Once everything is cleaned and put away, we prepare for our next event which is often the upcoming Friday & Saturday, so we will fill those buckets that we just cleaned with water to receive more flowers.
We will also pull and prep all vases, candles and candle holders to get them ready for our next event.
Once the fresh flowers arrive, we unpack them and process them which includes pulling them out of their packaging, cleaning bruised petals and all foliage off each stem, giving a fresh cut and conditioning them with floral foods.
The flowers will rest overnight and hydrate (after their travels across oceans and highways, they are extremely thirsty).
Next it’s time to work on proposals, detail design plans and preparing orders.
Oh, I forgot to mention the consultations that take place throughout the day.
IF all the flowers that were ordered did not arrive (yes, often we are tackling last minute surprises such as a batch of bad blooms or the “must have” blooms that didn’t arrive), then I’ll be making all the necessary calls to obtain said blooms, and sometimes even driving however far to get it.
Last, it’s responding to emails and confirming rentals (cargo van), creating to do lists & timelines for our team.
It’s busy, but never boring 😜

Fun facts about me:
1. I grew up in CA.
2. First job working with flowers was in my early 20’s at a kiosk overlooking the Pacific Ocean
3. Moved to Breckinridge, CO as a newlywed
4. Moved to NC after the birth of my 2nd child.
5. I was a stay at home mom who always worked side jobs (fitness instructor, florist, bakery, etc.) to help support our family but being a Mom will always be my favorite job.
6. Started my floral business as an empty nester
7. Participated in this shoot this spring for the first edition of the Married in the Mountains magazine
with a group of talented, fun, hard working vendors & I loved being apart of it!

Tall centerpieces can make a big impact while also helping to “fill” a room with high ceilings. Our tall gold stands are useful for elevating floral designs while keeping a “conversation friendly “ atmosphere because the stands are constructed in a way that allows guests to be able to see each other.

Timeless…I’ll never tire of a vase full of tulips! Using a single flower variety ‘en masse’ creates impactful table designs, the white and green color combination keeps it elegant and classic.

These Mountain View’s always fill me with peace.
Fun fact about me… on the morning of my wedding, I didn’t think I was nervous at all….but within an hour of waking up, I suddenly felt nauseous and, well, apparently I WAS nervous, because I “tossed my cookies “ as they say. I’d never had that happen before nor have I since.
That was it…the rest of the day was perfect and last month, we celebrated 28 years of marriage.
How do you deal with nerves? I’d enjoy hearing your story 😊
