What a difference a week makes! I am so glad we had our first annual Holiday Harvest Farm Market & Festival last weekend!

The weather was seasonally cool with a great Thanksgiving vibe. We filled Old Man Web's bank barn with the best and brightest local food vendors. Mediterra Bakehouse dazzled and amazed us with an over the top display of breads, pastries and yes, biscotti! The Olive Tap Pgh Strip District offered smooth and delightful pairings of well made oils and precisely aged balsamic vinegars and Steel City Salt Company seasonings and salts were the perfect finish. Pleasant Lane Farms proudly displayed their newly crowned World Cheese competition BRONZE winner 1795 Reserve Cheddar.
Newcomers Vnlla Cncpt and Red Hot Tea Company gave us something new to add to our pantries. The Shroomeister presented gourmet mushrooms displayed like beautiful artwork while Primrose Farm Pa tempted us with jellies and pies, Swope's Farm showed off an impressive display of delicious, crisp apples and honey in every variety and who could resist the array of perfectly presented cupcakes from KC Kitchen + Bakery. Sechler Sugar Shack gave us the maple syrup for our winter breakfast and Eighty-Four Microgreens kept us eating right. Twin Brook Dairy and Crazy Horse Coffee keep us warm with hot chocolate and coffee.

And let's not forget the libations! Angela at the The Washington Winery impressed with her Expresso Martini, and JD Cellars is always a Wildcat.

The Hen House made its debut with craft brew and hard cider from Beck-Ringland Tavern & Scenery Hill Brewing and Red Pump Spirits signature cocktails featured the flavors of the season. Not to be left out The Scoop Dog Canine Creamery took good care of our four legged friends and hats off to Affordable Elegance LLC, Chef Davis filled us with warm, delicious seasonally inspired food served with a smile.
And just to keep it interesting, Vintage Grace Boutique, Perfectly Imperfect- Nicole Loether, Wicks & Wax Studio Greensburg, Wray of Wool and Art by April Ryan / Thistledown Boutique inspired us to shop, gift and enjoy their artistry. And let's not forget the unforgettable sounds of a young shooting star, Miss Farrah Grace who lent her talents filling the air with melody and joy.

This market was exactly what I imagined. A brilliant display of our region and its talent. This signifies what the future holds here at the farm. To be in the barn and experience this group of talented entrepreneurs was a true privilege. To the vendors who dazzled and amazed and the always fabulous crew here are the farm. Alan and I say a heartfelt THANK YOU!

So until we see you here again in warmer weather let's enjoy these memories of last week's first annual Holiday Harvest Farm Market and Festival!

We are adjusting the Hen House Holiday Hours for tomorrow and hope you will understand.

Today was wonderful - and exhausting! We had an amazing group of local vendors and it was so gratifying to see you come out to support them. This farm has been a gathering place for over 200 years and watching the community come together today makes all the long days working toward this next chapter worthwhile.

Frankly we need a little time to cleanup...and recover. Stop by on your way to Scenery Hill Christmas Art Market & Light Up Night or on your way to watch the 2nd half of the big game. And don't worry...if the Hen House is hopping, we'll stay open 😉.

We thank all veterans for protecting our freedom - today and every day.

As we learn more about the history of our farm and the man who first settled it, Lieutenant Colonel Thomas Crooks, we find it so fitting that the farm is now home to a distiller who also served our country. Ed Belfoure, founder of Red Pump Spirits, is a Marine Captain and Vietnam Veteran. It feels like the history has come full circle and we believe 'The Colonel' would be pleased!

This is definitely not your typical chicken coop. She is still very much a work in progress but it's time to show her remarkable transformation from plain Jane to a majestic swan. It has far exceeded our wildest expectations!
