How to Use Zoom as a Baby Monitor with 8 Steps!!

Story time!!! So, we never purchased a baby monitor because our daughter shares a room with us. When we’re in the house, we take her everywhere we go. Yesterday was the first time that I felt the need to actually purchase a baby monitor. Our daughter was asleep upstairs and I needed to go downstairs to make something to eat. 🤦🏾‍♀️

I used my event planner skills + Zoom to create a baby monitor!! If you don’t have a baby monitor yet, but you have a cellphone + a laptop, here’s how you do it.

1. Sign into Zoom from your cellphone and select “New Meeting”

2. Select “Personal Meeting ID” a.k.a. your PMI.

3. Select “Start a Meeting”

4. Once you start your meeting, sign into Zoom from a laptop then select “Join” to join your meeting. Tip: Don’t select the “switch” option or one of your devices will disconnect from Zoom… both devices must be connected.

5. Enter your PMI to join your meeting.

6. You’ll appear on Zoom twice, from your cellphone and your laptop. When you join from your laptop, Zoom will ask if you want to “claim host.” The answer is no! Your cellphone device needs to be the “host” account.

7. From the host account, select “More” then select “Security” then select “lock meeting”. Tip: Locking your meeting stops people (known as “participants” on Zoom) from joining your meeting, even if they have your PMI.

8. Turn on your laptop’s video + mic, so that you can hear + see your baby. Adjust your laptop to see your baby’s face. Tip: Turn your cellphone mic + video off, so that your baby can’t hear you moving around.

Then you’re done!!

Due to this quick fix, I can walk downstairs to make mama something to eat!!! 😂 😂 😂

I’ll buy a baby monitor soon, but this works for now.

Good luck!!

Disclaimer: I’m not telling you what to do, just sharing what I did. 💙

After Chris Rock (comedian/actor) was slapped on stage at the Oscars, Olivia Wilde (actress/director) was served child custody documents while speaking at CinemaCon. This week, Dave Chappelle (comedian/actor) was attacked on stage at Hollywood Bowl. ⁣

Every time that I read about one of these incidents, it seems like no one planned for something like this to happen!! 👀⁣

The audience may be surprised and caught off guard, but the event planner shouldn’t be. 💯 At this point, an onstage attack or disruption should be a part of every event planner’s risk management plan if they’re bringing in talent. ⁣

A risk management plan is a document that lists foreseen events risks, the impact of these risks, and outlines responses to these risks.⁣

Here are 3 quick tips for creating a risk management plan for your next event.⁣

1. First, think about everything that could go wrong during your event. Don’t rule out anything!! Consider your past experiences, things that you’ve seen on tv…movies, whatever!! Add it as an event risk. ⁣

2. Second, outline the impact of each risk that you listed. If it happened at an event you planned, what would be the repercussions…publicity, lawsuits, violence, etc. Put your list in order, what’s most likely vs. what’s least likely to happen BUT don’t remove anything. ⁣

3. Third, create a solution for every risk that you listed. Consider the law, your resources, and/or lack thereof. You may find that you need to add a few new things to your event, like Security 👮🏾‍♀️🚔 or a stage barrier! ⁣

Good luck!!⁣

According to US News & World Report, recreational ma*****na/cannabis is legal in 18 states, Washington, D.C., and Guam, so it’s no surprise that planners are receiving requests to plan cannabis friendly events. ⁣

After reading about Danya & Jocelyn (see story below), I was moved to share 4 tips for any planner interested in coordinating a private event w/a cannabis infused menu.⁣

1. Think About Allergies ⁣

Never give ma*****na infused items to a guest without their consent. Believe it or not, some people are allergic to ma*****na! It’s called anaphylaxis. It’s a severe, life-threatening allergic reaction that can occur within seconds or minutes of consumption. ⁣

2. Know the Law⁣

Did you know that it’s a federal offense to put a controlled substance in someone’s food or drink without their consent? 👀⁣

Planners should also make sure that recreational ma*****na use is legal in the state that the event will be hosted in. If it’s legal for recreational use, use the legal age for consumption laws to create the food distribution plan.⁣

3. Tell Guests⁣

Notify guests, in writing, that there will be cannabis infused menu items at the event. Don’t try to surprise anyone for reasons mentioned above! Planners can use the invitation as a way to let guests know about cannabis infused items. I would suggest offering non-infused items for guests who don’t want to indulge.⁣

4. Written Consent ⁣

With the simple check of a box, a guest can agree to eat/drink ma*****na infused menu items or decline. Consider adding a consent question to your invitation…another RSVP question, under the dietary restrictions question. ⁣

Happy Planning!⁣

A bride and her caterer have been charged with felonies after allegedly lacing wedding food, including olive oil, lasagna and other food, with ma*****na.⁣

Orlando caterer Joycelyn Bryant & bride Danya Shea Svoboda were arrested on Saturday and charged with culpable negligence, delivery of ma*****na and violating Florida’s Anti-Tampering Act, according to incident reports supplied by the Seminole County Sheriff’s Office.⁣

If you’re a mom and an event planner, like myself, then you are probably thinking about doing next year a little different! Instead of attending an Easter Egg Hunt or skipping one all together, you may be thinking about planning + hosting your own next year.

Planning an Easter Egg Hunt for your child and their friends from school or other kids in your family could be an amazing experience for everyone!! Some people have even held Easter egg hunts with a twist…for adults only! Whatever you’re planning to do, here are 8 tips to help you plan your Easter Egg Hunt next year.

1. Guest List

Think about who you want to invite to your Easter egg hunt. Is your Easter egg hunt only for the kids in your family or the kids of a few close friends? Is this event for adults only? Is it open to the public or invitation only? Know your audience before you select a date, time, or location. This is also great information to have before you coordinate food or activities for this event. FYI: If it’s open to the public, don’t forget your waivers!!

2. Set a Date & Time

Once you are clear about who you are going to invite, select a date and time that would work best for the guests that you plan to invite. For example, if you know that most of the people on your guest list will be in church until 1:00 pm on Easter Sunday then you probably shouldn’t plan an Easter egg hunt before or during that time. If you choose to do so anyway then you are setting your event up for failure. 👀

3. Select a Location

Safety is key here! Don’t pick a location where there is a lot of traffic or a location that require guests to run across the street to find eggs. 🏃🏾‍♀️ A front yard or back yard would be a great location! Once you have confirmed your date, time, and location then start promoting your Easter Egg Hunt!!

4. Get Plenty of Eggs

Some people prefer real eggs, but plastic eggs are an option too. I personally prefer to use plastic eggs so that I can add prizes inside of each egg! You can also mix it up…half real eggs & half plastic eggs. Either way, make sure that you have more than enough for your event!! Plan for 8-10 eggs per guest. After all who wants to run out of eggs or prizes during an Easter egg hunt??

5. Baskets & Prizes

Guests will need a place to put all of those eggs and prizes, so this is a must! Get creative here! If you don’t want to buy baskets, use buckets or create your own egg/prize holders.

Don’t forget to buy prizes!!

6. Map It Out

Know where you want to hide the eggs before you put them out. Have your rules laid out in advance so that guests know where to go and what to do to win!!
Count your eggs before you put them out!! 😉

7. Additional Activities

Some people play music, serve food, play other Easter themed games during the scheduled time of the Easter Egg Hunt event. If you want to do a little extra, make sure that you have the time, space, and tools to do so.

8. Have Fun!!!! 🥰🤗😊

In Zoom, you can create single choice or multiple choice polls for your audience. As soon as everyone responds to the poll, broadcast the results to your audience and use the information collected as a talking point during your next Zoom event!
