Beestone Creative Co. Family & motherhood photographer dedicated to capturing warm, candid moments for the sentimental mama. Hi!

I'm Rachael, a family and motherhood photographer dedicated to capturing warm, candid moments for sentimental mamas. Growing up with a close family, I developed a deep appreciation for the sentimental value of photographs. I remember looking through albums and sifting through printed photos, smiling as each brought on a special memory. Inspired by my own journey as a mother, I've made it my missio

n to document the unique beauty found in everyday moments that often go unnoticed. From the silly smiles to the gentle way your newborn wraps their hand around your finger, my lens exists to transform those everyday moments into extraordinary memories.

Today, I’m sharing my final tip on feeling comfortable in front of the camera for your next family session.

Tip #5/5

✨Bring props to your session ✨

Props show off who you are and are a great way to make you feel comfortable while taking your photo.

Why?

It gives you something to interact with. Props could be anything from a piece of furniture to your child's favorite book.
Here at Beestone, I offer a prop closet, so if you are stuck on what to bring, I can help! I offer blankets, a wagon, picnic basket, an antique chair, and more!

This week, I’m sharing my 5 tips on how to feel comfortable in front of the camera for your next family session.

Tip #4/5

✨ Wear what makes you feel confident ✨

There is so much out there about what to wear to a photoshoot, but let me break it down for you. Wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident. You are booking a photoshoot to show who you are; clothing is critical in showcasing that!

If you feel uncomfortable, then most likely, that will show through the photos.

Do you like wearing jeans?
Great, then wear the jeans.
Does buying a new dress make you feel confident?
Awesome, buy the dress!

A helpful tool I like to recommend when putting outfits together is Pinterest.
I'm also always available to chat!

Here, I’ve included photos of clients who wore what made them feel both comfortable and confident! Take a look!

This week I’m sharing my 5 tips on how to feel comfortable in front of the camera for your next family session.

Tip #3/5

✨ View the session as an activity for you and your family ✨

Change your mindset from “I need to get these family photos done” to “I GET to have photos taken with my family.”

Your photo session is special one-on-one time carved out just for you. Allow yourself to slow down and enjoy those snuggles.

Yesterday I shared my first tip on feeling comfortable in front of the camera for your next family session. Read on for today’s tip…

Tip #2/5

✨ Let go of control ✨

For some, a photoshoot can quickly become stressful, especially when you are concerned about your kiddos and how they will behave at the session. My recommendation…

Take a deep breath and let the session unfold. I’m here to capture you and your family in your element. If your little one isn’t cooperating, we will move on and let them run the session. I’ve had plenty of sessions where kids cried and would not smile for me, which is ok! Read the review to get a mama's perspective.

This week I’m sharing my 5 tips on how to feel comfortable in front of the camera for your next family session.

Tip #1/5

✨Be yourself AND let your kids be themselves ✨

When it comes to your session, I want you and your family to be as comfortable as possible.
One way to do this is to focus on you and your family.
Make sure to interact with each other, smile, and have fun.
Forget that I’m there.
Forget about the camera.

If the kids get antsy and need to change things up, we will do that!
My sessions are “child-led,” meaning I like to focus on allowing the child to naturally guide the flow of the session. Instead of rigidly posing and directing them, I’ll observe and follow their energy.

I’ll talk about this more in tomorrow’s post. See you then!

I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday season! ✨

As we step into the New Year, I’m feeling refreshed and ready to embrace 2025 with open arms. My resolution this year is to slow down and focus more on what truly matters—my family. ❤️

To make this happen, I’m committing to journaling regularly, soaking in those precious everyday moments, and being more intentional about my time by spending less of it scrolling through social media.

What are your goals for the year ahead? Let’s cheer each other on and make 2025 the best yet! 🎉

This year's Merry Minis were truly magical! ✨

I had multiple messages from parents telling me their children believed Santa Mike to be the real Santa!

This message makes me want to cry each time I read it:
"My son left there, and his inner child was shining! I think Santa Mike kept the magic of Christmas alive for him for another year."

I'm so happy I could capture these special Santa moments for all of these families!

A special thank you to Hueter's Greenhouses for being the perfect location for these photoshoots!

Let’s talk postpartum.

How many of you prepped for postpartum?

I know I didn’t. I was so focused on pregnancy and the birth that I didn’t give any thought to everything after (well, except for the nursery and items I’d need for the baby).

It’s called the fourth trimester for a reason. It’s that next phase into motherhood. It’s a time of healing, learning, and bonding.

I feel so strongly about this that I wrote a guide called Three Big Ways You Can Survive the Fourth Trimester, and I’m giving it to you for free!

In this guide, I share what I learned as I navigated my own postpartum journey. I include tips for self-care, how to get into the right mindset, and even a motherhood journal template!

Yesterday’s session was originally planned to be outdoors, but wow, it was cold! 🥶

We decided to move it inside instead, and honestly, it turned out so great! Sometimes, a last-minute change ends up being a win. 🙌

Big thanks to my awesome clients for rolling with it and trusting the process. Here’s to creating memories no matter where we are! ✨

Nothing beats hanging at home, playing with your favorite toys, and lounging on the couch.

Madison was done with the typical outdoor fall photos and wanted to do something different for her family.

I've said it before, and I'll say it a million times more, I LOVE an in-home session! 🥰

We spend so much time focusing on our pregnancy and prepping for our baby that we usually don’t prep for what comes after: Postpartum.

I prepped physically, mentally, and emotionally for the birth; I didn’t think about what would happen after birth. I knew there would be healing of my body and snuggles with my baby, but I wasn’t ready for the total transformation I would go through as I entered into motherhood.

In this guide, I share what I learned as I navigated my own postpartum journey. I include tips for self-care, how to get into the right mindset, and even a motherhood journal template!

Recently, I’ve had a Folk/Acoustic Mix playing on repeat on Spotify. 🎶
The song that gets me every time is Little Hands by Inland Sky. 🥹
Have you heard it?

I actually created a playlist called Sentimental Songs for Sentimental Mamas.
I recommend listening while viewing your newborn and/or family photos 🥰

Check it out, and tell me what other songs I should add to the playlist!

Three facts every new mom should know:

1. It's okay if the days seem to drag on. It's normal, and you'll be on the other side eventually.

2. Take a lot of photos and videos. I obviously love photos, but there is something special about hearing your baby's little noises and movements.

3. If you are worried about being a great mom... you already are one. Give yourself some grace.

What else would you add to this list for a new mom?

Behind the BEE

Hi, I'm Rachael and I'm the creator of Beestone Media.

When I was out and about one day I found this bee charm. It came with a small piece of paper that read,

“According to laws of aerodynamics the bumble bee cannot fly; Its body is too heavy for its wings and that’s the simple reason why.

But the bumble bee doesn’t know this fact, and so it flies anyway for all to see. Remember this when you're losing faith or hope.
