COY - Brown Bear cubs generally stay with their mothers 2 to 3 years. When someone mentions COY's they're referring to cubs born that year as opposed to the older cubs still with their mother. We were fortunate to spend time with this mother and her COY’s at Katmai National Park. It was super fun watching them play.

“Dinner Time” A yearling coastal brown bear nursing its Mama at Katmai National Park. It was so cool to hear the murmuring as the yearling fed. The mothers often relax around us since the big males do not want to approach while we are there.
