Have you ever wondered why you’d want a photographer with you all day at your elopement? If your day is supposed to be intimate & about the two of you, why should you invite me to be your third wheel? 😂
-
Well the first thing you should know about hiring me to document your elopement—is that it is NOT like modeling for an 8-hour photoshoot—because yeah, that doesn't sound fun in the slightest. 😂I mean who wants to be posed for 8-hours straight?
-
When I come along to your elopement—the day is still 100% about the two of you. Even though I'm a photographer, my biggest priority on your elopement day isn't taking photos (*GASP!*)—but seriously, I mean it. I am not what matters on the day you get married. Getting "bangers" for my IG feed isn't my priority... forcing you into that cookie-cutter Pinterest pose isn't my priority. My priority is creating a safe space where YOU two feel 100% comfortable and free to be yourselves—so that you can be fully present and just have a freaking BLAST being your real selves on the day you get married—because that's what you deserve.
-
And the funny thing is... is THAT'S how great photos happen. These moments you're seeing on this feed—these don't come from forced, in-authentic posing. These are real couples being their real selves and genuinely having fun. Of course I come with tons of ideas and suggestions (so you're not wondering what to do) but my true priority is just to empower you two to just be YOU, and help you to have the best time together—exactly who you are—not anyone else.

Having me at your wedding day means you get a best friend, cheerleading you and making you feel freaking awesome (because you are) so that I can capture you at your best—having the genuinely best time of your life.

I think YOU are what matters most on your wedding day—not my photos—and this is why you deserve to have an all-day "you-focused" elopement photographer as your guide—and this is how you can have the entire story of wedding day documented, without finding yourself being a "prop" in someone else's photoshoot. 👊ELOPE!

One question that I get asked a lot is.. “What the heck do I
photograph when I spend 8-12+ hours with a couple on their elopement day?”⁣ ⁣
The answer? I photograph them having their best day together
and the freaking TIME OF THEIR LIFE 😂 And for adventurous couples... that often means they are adventuring on their wedding day.⁣
⁣For Haley & Kevin's epic Smokey Mountains elopement, they changed outside next to a BEAUTIFUL stream, had a cute little picnic in the woods, and walked onto the longest suspension bride in the U.S. 🙌🙌 but if that’s not your cup of tea... just remember that there are NO RULES when it comes to your elopement day. You can go white water rafting, stand up paddle boarding, hiking (my fave 😍), zip lining, skydiving), or go hiking with your dogs. 🙌⁣ ⁣
Think about what feels like YOU TWO—if I asked you what would be the perfect day that you two
would enjoy every minute of... what does that look like?⁣ ⁣
So heck yeah! 👊 Go on an EPIC suspension bridge on your wedding day and have the magical Smokey Mountains all to yourself... the point is your wedding adventure can be whatever you dream up. 👏⁣ ⁣

As elopements are all about throwing traditions that you don’t want out the window and doing YOU instead, I just LOVE when brides pick unique dresses that don’t fit the traditional white dress mold.

HOW TO PLAN AN ELOPEMENT (PT. 1)⁣

The FIRST thing you should do before you plan your elopement is…⁣
-⁣
✨ DREAM ✨⁣
-⁣
Keep your mind open, sit down with your partner, and fall deep into your imagination. This part isn’t about getting stuck in the details about what’s “realistic” or not — this part is about addressing your wildest dreams, fantasies, and biggest wants for your wedding day.⁣
-⁣
To help yourself plan, get inspired, and excited about new ideas, you can use Pinterest, travel guides, books, Google Earth Pro or maps. Consider all the places that excite you, but also might challenge you. Write them down! Then think about all the places you know well, that comfort you, and write those down too.⁣

Your goal is to land on a general area of the world & time of year you would like to elope so that you can begin your elopement research 🌎⁣
-⁣
For example, “We REALLY want to do a helicopter elopement, so let’s focus our research on where that would be possible” or “We really want a magical forest location that’s also near a beach -- and we have to eat tacos.”⁣
-⁣
It’s absolutely OKAY to keep your ideas vague. This exercise is to help dream yourself into a reality that at first seemed impossible. Have FUN imagining all the possibilities!⁣

What should you wear for your elopement?⁣

While your mom might gasp when you tell her you want to wear hiking boots instead of heels — there’s a real reason why finding an awesome pair for your elopement day could be the best decision of your day.⁣ 🙌
⁣
My BEST and most helpful advice for the footwear you choose on your elopement day is:⁣
⁣
1. Find a REALLY comfortable boot that you’ll enjoy adventuring in all day. Something functional and comfy that you won’t want to tear off at the end of the day is IDEAL.⁣
⁣
2. Get a boot that has really good tread! This means you won’t be worried about slipping or falling while you’re running around and adventuring on your day.⁣
⁣
3. If it’ll be cold during your elopement day, get something insulated and waterproof.⁣
⁣
PRO TIP: Wear wool socks! Wool socks are breathable, warm, and keep you comfy alllll day during your elopement.⁣ ❤🥰

It's always SO fun to see the ways my couples are creative with their footwear on their day, so here are a few of my FAVS! 😍😍

I believe wedding dresses & suits pair perfectly with dirt covered boots, bouquets tucked into backpacks, and early morning trails up mountaintops. 🏔🥾🎒💐 We believe it's even better than with a fancy stuffy ballroom and uncomfortable heels.⁣

So if your idea of a perfect day is wearing your wedding attire with hiking boots — spending your day exploring a new place, backpacking, or camping with your partner — go for it! ELOPE 🙌🙌🙌⁣

Blunt truth: No one has a right to be at your wedding.

At least once a week I’m on the phone with an engaged couple working though their vision about what they want to look like—and often they’re debating whether they should elope just the two of them or have something bigger.
-
Truthfully, I love intimate weddings just as much as 2-person elopements. Getting married with 5-15 of the closest people in your life—just the ones who truly know you and love you and accept you as you are—the people who you are truly safe to be your true self around—it’s pure magic.
-
But here’s the thing... the people who you choose to invite to witness you two saying your vows and promising your lives to each other—it’s a privilege for them to be there—it’s not a right.
-
Families are complicated folks... and just because someone shares some of your DNA doesn’t mean that they have a right to anything in your life. If you have loving and supportive family who breathe life & good energy into your life—awesome 👏 but if you don’t.... if there’s someone who you are feeling pressured to invite to YOUR wedding... that you don’t feel safe around... someone who brings you down or judges you or makes you feel “less than”—it’s NOT their right to be there. You can choose to keep the space in which you say your vows 100% safe and only for those who 100% are there for you.

Relationships are privileges, not rights. Surround yourself with people who love you and lift you up—those who encourage you and help you become a better human being.
-
You can choose to invite ONLY your best friends or just your parents, or just your siblings, or have a day that is just for the two of you, with zero distractions and zero audience that may affect what you feel you can say aloud in your vows.

The choice is yours friends. Remember that you don’t have to make decisions out of fear or obligation about your wedding day. The day that you’ll look back on every year on your anniversary is worth honoring and protecting—you deserve to have a day filled with only the people who are really there for you. ❤

I’ve been thinking a lot about why I find adventurous elopements so inspiring—why I’m so deeply connected to the idea of having an adventure on your wedding day. Why not just have everything easily accessible, high-end, fancy, and bougie?⁣

I’ve determined what it comes down to is this: adventuring isn’t easy. It’s not easy to get up in the dark before sunrise and hike and get to an awesome spot for alpenglow, it’s not easy to brave the elements in a wedding dress—it takes commitment, grit, hard work, and overcoming challenges. But so does marriage.⁣

I think the living metaphor of a couple struggling and supporting each other up a difficult hike, or their first experience with high elevation and mountain top winds... is absolutely beautiful. I love the figurative and literal picture of a couple holding each other tight and keeping each other warm.⁣

Sure, it be easier to get married in the balcony of a fancy hotel, it would be easier to have a normal traditional wedding. Those things are easy, and common, and sensible. Adventuring isn’t. Loving isn’t. Love is crazy and wild and insane and not sensible at all—and so is wanting to get up at 3am to hike up a mountain together.⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣⁣
