PROJECT 2.3 - UPDATE
Leading the growth of disc golf across East Africa, the Uganda project continues to expand its impact through strategic development and community engagement. In 2024, the program hosted three PDGA tournaments: the Greenzone in March, Juniors Championship in July, and the Crested Crane Classic. The program's growth included a collaboration with Eagles Wings to install a new course at Uganda Christian University (UCU). Under Israel Muwanguzi's leadership, Disc Golf Uganda has established four permanent courses and trained over 3,400 new players and coaches across 38 districts, building from zero courses in 2021.
As the Paul McBeth Foundation's first international staff member, Muwanguzi continues to drive the sport's growth across the region. His work has generated interest in eight new course locations, while a partnership with Ndejje University is developing local basket manufacturing capabilities. In Eastern Uganda, a traditional college is combining basket purchasing with student-led manufacturing for a new course installation.
Looking ahead to 2025, priorities include sustaining the Junior Championships, supporting students' aspirations to compete in international PDGA tournaments, and securing national corporate partnerships to ensure sustainable operations. Beyond Uganda, Muwanguzi is fostering connections with grassroots leaders in neighboring countries, including promising discussions about Rwanda's first disc golf course.
