Interrupting radio silence over here to make sure you all know about the Motherhood Minis I am doing with Almond Tree Photography at Vivials on April 15.
David and Kristen Harper were devastated to learn that Mackenzie, one of the twins Kristen was carrying, died during pregnancy. But two things have helped ease their pain: Watching their other twin, Harper, thrive after being born prematurely, along with lots of support from Beacon Childrenâs Hospitalâs Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
âWe were afraid to touch (Harperâs) tiny, frail body, much less feed her or change her diaper,â Kristen writes. âAs a result, the nurses spent extra time when showing us how to care for her. We appreciated the extra attention and it eased our fears.â
This month, Beacon Children's Hospital celebrates five years of delivering expert care, close to home, in its current location. We are shining a spotlight on some of our inspiring patients -- like Harper. Support our teams and their incredible work. Donate today.

From the second I read Elyseâs answers to the questionnaire I send out prior to sessions, I knew I was going to be part of something special. She is one of those moms that really knows her children. I have a friend thatâs like that. She knows her children so well, and it makes her a better mom. She knows how to better interact, discipline, listen to, give space to, and teach her children. Typically, I feel inadequate⊠I am either not as observant, thoughtful, or selfless as these mamas, because it feels like sometimes I fail to really see them and know them. Something to work on!
When I was thinking about the footage I got during this Moving Portrait session, and as I was rereading her answers, I knew I wanted this film to be a love letter to her 5 sons and daughters. Motherâs Day coming up was an extra little nudge in that direction. I absolutely, positively LOVE the result and canât wait to do this more during video sessions.
I love that her children are going to have mom, in her own voice, affirming to them what makes them unique, special and loved. Can you imagine having something like this to turn back to from time to time? What a treasure.
Moving Portrait sessions are a mash-up of a portrait session and a family film. You get the best of both worlds. You get some Christmas card and fireplace mantel worthy family pictures, but also real-life candids, and of course a one-of-a-kind family film showing your kids off in their current stages. What could be better?
Enjoy the latest Moving Portrait session and photos. I love it.

A fun engagement session to kick off the photography season.
Crystal and Doug are engaged! While their plans are currently on hold (thanks Covid), we were at least able to get engagement pictures taken on a beautiful spring day. Crystal really wanted a woodsy location, and I just loved all the variety we found here in Mishawaka. Congrats! And enjoy my favor

I admit it. I hate Facebook. I own a small photography business. Does that mean I have to keep Facebook? I don't know. What do you think?
So far, I have set an away message on my business page, rarely if ever update my page and receive less than a handful of serious inquiries from it every year. I get on to update or check messages so infrequently that I feel like I could actually pull the plug on the whole thing.
Those 3 of you that will actually see this.. would you miss me? I mean, no, right? I don't even want to be here. Does anyone else feel this way? Am I crazy?
In the meantime, I keep my website and my IG updated all the time. I also have a newsletter you can sign up to receive every 6 weeks or so. Isn't that enough, people?!?! Haha!!!!
Until I make a final decision, I will keep sporadically sharing here.
This is one of my favorite latest sessions. I love it love it love it. If you are interested in a film + photo session, I would love to hear from you.
There is a letter board in the living room in Kara and Danâs house. As I walked by and saw what it said, I had to take pause. It is the perfect quote for anyone who believes that Family Films are an important keepsake.

I meet some of the coolest people with the most fun jobs doing this!
The next time youâre listening to a mystery or young adult audio book, you could be hearing this galâs voice. What an awesome job. She needed a few head shots for her updated website, so we got together in December in Downtown South Bend. After a busy fall season of photographing all your beauti...

âI just hope I never forget what he feels like in my arms⊠the way he snuggles with me, smiles at us, giggles⊠Every day heâs changing and I just want to never forget these days of becoing a mom for the first time. Heâs my first baby so I want to remember literally everything. Remember how these quiet days of COVID have been some of our best. Weâre so so lucky to get to spend all this time together. While we arenât âdoingâ much, it feels like just being together is everything.â
This was Krystalâs why. It was so easy for me to close my eyes and remember when it was just my husband, myself and our first baby. Getting married is a huge life transition, but having a baby felt totally completely foreign and brand new. All that learning about ourselves, each other, and the new guy in town. Figuring out what days look like. Figuring out what the nights look like. Not knowing the answers to huge questions: Will I ever sleep again? Will I ever not feel completed depleted again? Would I ever be able to love another baby as much as I love this one? Oh man, those first days. Nothing like them. (And this is coming from a mom who had a colicky, scary-challenging first baby!)
Krystal and I met online through our love of family film making. It has been such an honor to give Krystal a gift that is so difficult to give herself. As photographers, we are always taking pictures, so our husbands have plenty of pictures and films with our kids. We donât have as many lol. I love that I could do this for her.
I was struck by how much Zach and Krystal loved each other. Their affection for one another is so obvious. It was one of her wish list items: âI hope Leo never forgets how much Zach and I love each other. I want my kids to know how important our marriage is first and foremost. We will love all our babies but our love for each other will always come first. I hope they look back and are proud of how we prioritized each other and loved each other in front of them.â I think we nailed it.
I hope you love this film as much as I do. We look at a slice of a Saturday, from when baby wakes up to when he goes back to bed. Itâs only enough time for the basics: diaper change, bottle, play time and breakfast. Remember those days? The monotony? She said, âthe monotony of being a parent in general sometimes drives me crazy. Another diaper chanfe, another bottle, another chore, etc. But man, I know Iâll miss it so much. I try to remind myself of that constantly, especially when I just feel worn down and tired.â I can remember. Wanting so bad to lay the baby down for a break, but then missing him as soon as you close the door. What a life! Enjoy the Franke Family Film. If you like what you see, why donât you email me today about scheduling your very own Film Story? Iâd love that.

Photographs are important. You probably donât need to look further than the phone in your hand to realize that. This is the most photographed generation ever to live, yet I would bet youâve printed just a handful of those snapshots in recent years.
Why go through the planning of family pictures? Because they are important. I value photographs more since my father and both remaining grandparents died within a year of one another. The pictures were all I wanted. They matter. They matter to you, they matter to me, and they will matter to your children one day more than you will every know.
I am so happy we have found each other. Delivering beautiful galleries & family films brings me true joy.
When I photograph your family, I aim to capture honesty, authenticity, and a genuine connection. I hope to give your family an unforgettable day and create an experience to help you tell your story for generations to come.
Presenting photographs that makes you grin from ear to ear (or even shed a happy tear or two) is a dream job.
