We’re proud to announce that Dr. Marguerite Hinrichs, Executive Director and Curator of the Coleman Center for the Arts, is part of Recast City’s SPARK 10! 🎉

Located in York, AL, a town of 2,500, the Coleman Center for the Arts leverages creativity to drive positive social change and . Under Dr. Hinrichs’ leadership, the Center fosters local pride and provides a model for advancing small-scale manufacturing in areas. Originally from Oakland, CA, Dr. Hinrichs brought her expertise in marketing and hospitality to York, a community that is 90% , with a mission to make a meaningful difference.

The Center now hosts monthly popup markets for artisans, creates employment opportunities for artists and makers, and collaborates with the University of Alabama’s Nonprofit & Entrepreneurship Clinic to empower new businesses. Dr. Hinrichs envisions transforming York into a vibrant arts destination where visitors can experience and purchase locally crafted products.

Ilana Preuss, Founder & CEO of Recast City and a leading champion of small-scale manufacturing in the United States, announced today the inaugural SPARK 10, a first-ever list of 10 women who are sparking catalytic change through small-scale manufacturing in communities across America.

"Each of these women has developed an innovative model to address community and economic development needs through small-scale manufacturing. Their work deserves wide recognition, as it provides opportunities for replication."

After receiving dozens of nominations from across the country, we’re excited to officially launch the inaugural SPARK 10! Our list honors 10 women sparking catalytic change through small-scale manufacturing in communities across the United States.

Each of these incredible leaders has created innovative models to address local development needs, driving economic growth and empowering their communities.

The ladies on our list hail from nine cities in seven states and D.C., including Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Columbia, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Santa Ana, Washington, D.C., and York.
