Imagine you give the bride and groom 15 minutes to just chill together and you capture what happens.
I saw another account (I wish I could remember who!) post about how gen z hates posed photos and just wants authentic candids. It’s kind of all of us though isn’t it!?
So much of what I try to do for my clients is help them enjoy the stuff they “have to do” (I do things like adding music during portraits, prep prep and more prep for family photos, scheduled breaks from the timeline…) But what if the mentality was flipped?
What if we sat down and decided what a perfect day looks like and then put professionals in place to support it?! Sounds pretty cool and fun to me.

I used AI to change the carpet in this ballroom and I’m now equally saying:
1. Everything on the internet is fake and no one should be trusted!!!
And
2. Whooo can I speak to at ballroom carpeting companies about their color and design choices? Are they ok? Have we checked on them?
You can do it all, but you can’t do it all well.
I feel like this phrase sums up being a business owner mother 😅, but it also relates to adding wedding planning on top of an already established and full lifestyle. Can you relate?!

Three *secret* tips to remember when hiring your wedding florist, from a tenured planner:
1. Ask for some loose stems that your planner or photographer can use for detail shots. 🌿🌷
2. Request personal flowers (and said loose stems) to be delivered to you 30 minutes prior to the photographer, because they typically start with details.📸 ⌚️
3. Always ask for vases for the bridesmaids’ bouquets so that when they are finished with them they can be peppered throughout the event as extra arrangements. 💐🍰⛪️

“Have you worked at my venue?”
I hate this question. It just isn’t the full representation of what the asker is usually trying to get at!
“Are you experienced?”
“Will you know what to do?”
“Do you have connections?”
“Are you inspired by the same things I am?”
“Are you the BEST option for ME?”
All these get summed up in one (incomprehensive) question, “Have you worked at my venue?”
▪️Typically▪️it is a wise idea to collaborate with someone experienced in your preferred space, especially if you do not desire an intense focus on design ✴️ . They know the layout, the ins, the outs, and can seamlessly navigate through the planning process. I’ve done these events. I get it.
HOWEVER, let’s flip the coin. For those of you yearning to elevate the ambience 🪩 and aesthetic 🪄 of your wedding to another level, a fresh set of talented eyes could be your secret weapon.
Nothing ignites ❤️🔥 a designer’s creativity more than a blank canvas. 🎨 A new venue attracts new inspirations, fresh ideas, and unique design possibilities. It can result in an event that’s nothing short of unforgettable.
So, if you want a planner that specializes in design, don’t shy away from embracing the unknown. Unknown does not equal inexperienced and a luxury process is never cookie cutter. 🍪

I recently had a conversation with a potential client about handing over the reins on her wedding day. It was what lead her to look for a planner or coordinator. She already knew the value.
One thing we ended up diving into was what level of familiarity would she need to truly let go? Would a meeting or two within the month of the wedding be enough to get to know her and her priorities?
My recommendation was tough to give because she was more than capable of the logistical aspects of wedding planning. She also had some recent experience with the local industry and felt confident in sourcing her own vendor team. This would typically be an easy candidate for month-of coordination.
However, the more we talked the more I recognized her deep desire to feel free and confident on her wedding day. Us type-A’s don’t relax easily haha! We also can fall into the trap of thinking that it will be done best if it’s just done by us… resonate with anyone else!?
My recommendation shifted.
I knew her most confident and carefree self would be the result of partnering with someone that could genuinely get to know her. Someone that would so effortlessly take the reins because they were there at the rein’s origin. Full planning would mean freedom. It would mean emotional capacity to enjoy and experience because we’d know exactly what decisions to make and even more so… the ones she’d want to make herself.

This is a design storyboard.
My busy mind always starts with this when designing a wedding. There’s something less intimidating about paper and pen as opposed to a blank digital canvas. (Oh.. I’m old?)
I study everything (budget, design questionnaire, venue spaces, colors and textures, rental inventories, client Pinterest pages…) and then I let the various aspects that anchored themselves in my mind flow out onto these tidy squares.
It always different things that inspire a wedding design. Sometimes it’s covering something unsightly. Sometimes it’s amplifying something gorgeous. I view it as a puzzle only I can solve… How do I take these priorities, these local resources, this amount of money, these colors and styles and fit them into this specific space in the best way possible?
It’s the most fun and special challenge every. time.

I love having fun. I’ve often neglected the major aspect of my personality and company that it is in order to highlight my experience, knowledge or design skills, but I LOVE having fun. It infiltrates everything I do.
On our calls, I crack jokes.
At our meetings I might mess around a little.
On your wedding day I am for sure keeping things moving smoothly, but with (nice) sarcasm and a smile.
I also might bring treats or add little surprises.

I think this wins as most magical moment this year. (Which is saying A LOT because every one of my weekends is so touching and special!)
Anna and Brayton are high school sweethearts and have been together through college, med school and during their engagement they both matched at Mizzou for residency.
They had a group of guests that all had known and loved both of them since childhood and it was like a huge family gathering.
When it came time for their first dance Teddy Swim’s cover of “You’re Still the One” started playing and there was this palpable, joyful mesmerization as the lyrics, “looks like we made it…look how far we’ve come now baby” played. You can see me literally giggling in delight on the side of the dance floor watching them!
These are the moments that carry me through. The ✨magic✨ of love, family, and an atmosphere able to enjoy it in. 🥰
