Water your soul

Little did I know, anticipate or understand how a garden would grow me. 🌱

It seems to me each garden is an active expression of our soul. An individual and sometimes shared vision with surprises and twists and turns. The practice of weeding, supporting, nourishing… bringing fruits, vegetables, and flowers to life 🌻is a thrilling experience, new over and over again and such a beautiful representation of everything in life.

What we don’t eat goes to the animals or gets composted back into the garden to richen the soil. It reminds me that there is no idea, path or experience in our lives that is ever wasted. It always enriches us. We just sometimes have to wait to see…

Many thanks to the Rancher for showing me the way of the garden, my heart feels so free here☀️

What does my table look like?

Pretty simple and pretty much what you’d guess! I like color and and fresh flavors. I like a quickly prepared delicious meal that we can enjoy together at the table and one where we can reminisce about the joys of the day.

I do love freshly cut flowers, these came from and if I don’t have flowers I might just have a mason jar of herbs for fragrance and a soft reminder of the outdoors, they come in handy too!🪴

Dinner was simmered black beans with garlic and cumin, grilled chicken, homemade salsa and pickled red onions. Another night, sunflowers 🌻and a big salad with bacon and bleu cheese. Each ingredient gathered as freshly as possible and the conversations that flow at this table seem as effortless and deeply rich and spiritual as the ingredients. 💕Ahhh the ripples of our actions… watch where yours lead!🌸

Oh! You are all busy planning your holiday get togethers!

I’m thrilled as always to hear from you…yes, artistically arranged and health inspired plates are my jam 👩🏻‍🌾 and you’ll see me at retreats, corporate gatherings, family reunions, dinner parties and girls nights throughout the southeast region. Pretty much any celebration you are planning under 30 guests is a perfect fit for my Private Chef skill set. I travel for parties a lot… stretching from Florida to Alabama to Tennessee to Georgia. 📍

I love telling your guests where the beautiful food came from, garden grown, farmers market gathered are my favorites. If they’d like to join me in the kitchen, they are welcome.

My favorite compliment… “this was so much fun, I feel full and I feel great!”
Food is intended to nourish and feed. That’s what I do. My nursing background, gentle spirit nurtured by a simple life on a sheep ranch in northern Alabama where farms and fresh food are abundant and a inspired desire to bond people through a beautiful food experience give me a unique personality. I bring that to your event. I’m often told “just bring that vibe you bring, I know it will be beautiful and have a wonderful presence”. I love that!

All that to say, my calendar is filling up and I’d love to accommodate you all! Please book soon and I’ll make sure your party is literally a feel good, nourishing event to be remembered!

👩🏻‍🌾A farm stand inspired meal. After a visit to it was diced sweet potatoes and cut corn sautéed with our garden grown garlic, red onions and spices then simmered with black beans for enchiladas. A handful of cheese gave it creaminess and it turns out I’d grabbed a bag of dairy free cheese at Trader Joe’s. Love it! Let’s see if the rancher can tell…🤠

I love meals like this that can be prepared ahead and gives you time to be in nature, this particular day - a little time watching the chickens take a drink. Little things can reset our emotional balance, help us to recalibrate to joy and remind us of just how beautiful simplicity is. Go get yours!☀️

Some people recommend a strict and well laid out business plan, that’s not for me though.

Instead I have chosen to respond to your requests, they lead me to a more and more authentic version of myself than I could ever have dreamed up. 🌸

For this particular client, a starter course of harissa lamb meatballs on a puddle of green goddess dressing with a crunchy finely chopped Persian cucumber and herb salad atop.

👩🏻‍🌾Garden grown red onions, garlic and herbs will be featured here. Pasture raised, rotated and grass fed lamb will be honored, eggs fresh from the coop from free ranging chickens will be mixed in by hand, and edible flowers picked by me from the garden will adorn the plates. They will invite me to say a bit about the dish… from my heart, from my hands to their plates. What an absolute joy it will be to describe and what a joy it is to serve you!

Gosh, food creates memories, creates bonds between people and ignites friendships and just generally makes you love being alive!

My first taste of gumbo was in college when my Lafayette raised roommates father visited. He would spend all day preparing gumbo and served it with a scoop of potato salad. He also kept us deep in Zapps potato chips, a gleeful goody box to receive! Potato salad alongside of gumbo is a regional add, it depends where you reside as to if you are a rice or potato lover with your gumbo.

Many years later I found myself renting an antebellum kitchen from for my catering work and once again found myself with a Cajun extraordinaire. Chris would come in and tell me all kinds of Cajun tales and he was a rice with his gumbo guy. Their restaurant is still a top choice for lunch goers in Vicksburg, MS.

Fast forward to today where I now offer cooking classes at the storybook setting . Owners Paulette and Richard Manning invited us over for some gumbo making, Richard’s specialty. Richard Johnston played on the radio, and her hubby joined us and we spent the morning ceremoniously preparing gumbo. Rain pattered on the tin roof, sheep grazed in the adjacent meadow and we hand pulled smoked chicken, fried conecuh sausage and browned roux just right. It truly could not have been a better time! Paulette treated us to lunch on her homemade foccacia that we made into panini as our gumbo bubbled away. Friendship, food, memory making. 💛

We each took our gumbo home to season and continue to enjoy. I made potato salad for ours to attach my first experience to it. Food binds and bonds, friendships seal and tastes create memories. I’m thankful for all of my gumbo experiences and most especially this recent one. Not only absolutely delicious but a day to be remembered always. Thank you Richard (and Paulette)!

Autumn wedding gift ideas!
💒💝💒

Experience gifts are popular for a reason, they are memorable, memory making, fun and creative! They also keep giving… for instance, a cooking class provides a memorable experience for the couple and they go home with the recipes. This way they create together, incorporate the gift of the class into their weekly meals, holiday celebrations and permanent memory banks.

This is a winning gift, I know because I get to meet the recipients, I hear back from them on how much they enjoyed the time and how they are making the food together and remembering the gift giver as they do so. 👩‍🍳

The gift card and enclosure note pictured above was sent out this week, it’s on thick card stock and immediately gives the message of importance in its quality and artfully created design. It’s a prelude to their experience, we are known for our joyful celebration of food, family, friends and love always. We are honored to be part of your gift giving and all of the love and memories that it will spill forwards!💕💕💕

It’s always a joy to head on over to Lucia Bleu for an in-suite culinary evening. 🤍

It was particularly fun to meet these two beautiful souls, they are in the Fairhope area for a rejuvenating retreat, their joy fed mine!

Together they created pretty little mocktails, then nibbled on honey baked Brie.

For dinner, an easy but impressive New Orleans style head on shrimp dish with conecuh white beans and a balsamic dressed salad with beets and Microgreens (greens from ) they have big plans to treat their families to this dinner when they return home. They’ll be taking a little piece of Fairhope memories with them and I’m sure happy to play a part in that!
