Moonscapes and Earthshine

In the silent dance between the Moon and the Earth, a profound connection emerges that bridges the vast expanse of space with the intimate beauty of visual art. Moonscapes and Earthshine is an art installation specially created by Black Moon for Studio 101 at the Tulsa Artist Fellowship. A collective of Black Artists based in Tulsa, Black Moon is at the forefront of the art scene, pushing global conversations while cultivating a visionary artistry that holds space for the local community.

Moonscapes and Earthshine captures the essence of a metaphorical cosmic relationship, inviting viewers to witness the Moon's serene phases and rugged craters (Black Moon) collaborating with Earth's elements of soil, flowers, and water available to the audience as their symbolic Earthshine.

This cosmic proximity relates to Black Moon’s positionality and importance in the cultural arena. Just as the Moon casts its silvery glow upon our nights, the Earth (audience) reciprocates, gently illuminating the Moon's dark side with a soft, subtle radiance. This reciprocal interplay between light and darkness is a metaphor for the interconnectedness of all things—an interconnectedness that extends to the building and reframing of New Worlds for Black people to exist in.

Through a fusion of artistic expression, human imagination, and movement, I ask you to enter Moonscapes and Earthshine with wonder and curiosity. This installation is a portal to explore the cosmic poetry that unfolds when we gaze at the Moon and embrace the quiet resonance of earthshine. It is an open invitation to be in the Black Moon state of mind.
