The Bryants

Sam + John couldn't have ordered a more perfect late fall day for their wedding. Despite being early November, remnants of foliage hung from branches in its muted and understated tones, a contrast to the clear blue skies. Family and friends gathered to celebrate their union at the state's oldest Episcopal church which Sam's family helped found and build generations ago. A table of remembrance inside the church greeted guests as they stepped through its weathered wood doors. Inside, the window light served to illuminate and warm the old church as Sam and John exchanged vows before those closest and dearest to them.
An intimate luncheon followed at the Common Man filled with smiles, laughter, and hugs, a bag full of soft picks to share, and a polite cake cutting in spite of the encouragement from guests to misbehave!
Best wishes and happiness to Sam + John now and in the years to come! Congratulations!

This gallery of family portraits tells a story, one with a joyous, spontaneous ending - and from an imagery standpoint, the storyline shined. It is a snapshot of family life.
Back in the summer, when Kirsten asked me to take some family photos, I eagerly said "yes!" and "when?" We are former co-workers and friends from what feels like a lifetime ago, so it was a chance to catch up and see the wonderful life she has orchestrated with her partner Sam and their children, Beau and Tenley, and new pup Winston.
Like so many good narratives, the opening chapter of this photo session involved a lot of feelings and some apprehension. The middle bit brought more willingness and an opening up that grew into a final burst of expression and synthesized into absolute photographic gems. I think that I made a new friend that day, too ;)
Thank you, Gragen family, for exploring and letting the T Rex roam, and for the lightness that prevailed and made for the best of a family's time together.
