Cowboys. The American West. Oregon. Most of the dominant history and imagery that we are familiar with doesn't tell the true narrative about who was out there building the place we live in today.

This is the first in a series where I teamed up with seasoned archaeologist Chelsea Rose to uncover the things left behind that tell a fuller history.

Artifacts. Dust and dirt. Driving a minivan off-road. Enjoy this journey through time and Eastern Oregon!

As a photographer, I think I may always have a backlog of photos to go through and edit, and I usually do in slow motion (which I remind myself is perfectly ok!). The first few days of our Iceland trip this past fall featured lots of water (like a hot river complete with boardwalk infrastructure, countless waterfalls), sleeping in a prairie with a delirious view of the Aurora the first and only night, and so many Nutella sandwiches so we could maximize nature time and be a lil frugal. We didn’t elope as planned (2020 lol) but we made it there finally. 🧊🏝️

A chronological series of “bump pics” that I asked my mom to send. A big thank you to my mom and all of the moms who have helped raise everyone to be kinder humans. The last photo is of me earthside, since I’m the youngest of four and my mom usually took most of the photos, she only has a few of us when I was the “bump,” and really I was more of a zygote, but that’s just the way it was before camera phones. Love you, mom! ❤️

Two things: the headshot I submitted for a badge got rejected because the background wasn’t solid enough (it was a white drape 🤷‍♀️) and the directions also indicated that “no shadows are allowed” which I laughed at and then proceeded to light this new one the way I wanted to light it. Let’s see if rejection #2 is in my future or not…
Thanks to my partner for making this a 10-minute shoot and capturing my professional (but not too professional) presence.

Grateful always for the opportunity to shoot, and especially when said shoot involves bffs, crafts, crying tears of joy, being outside in nature, and eating the best durn popsicles I’ve ever had in my life. I don’t do many weddings, but when I do, it’s always worth it.

Happy Father’s Day to my dad, who taught me so much about taking your time, being careful with money, driving a car, reusing and repurposing things, enjoying a beer, and loading the dishwasher (correctly). Miss you so much and cannot wait to see you after such a year. And happy birthday and first day of summer tomorrow!

Sitting together around mom (in birth order) as she tells stories from old photo books back in 2019. My mom says she always wanted to have daughters and the universe heard her (though not without trials and tribulations). A special thanks to my mom and all of the moms and mom figures who show us the way to be kind, thoughtful humans, and love us just the way we are. We love you so much and can’t wait for more stories and more hugs soon.
