I believe that every couple has the right to have access to marriage regardless of religion, sexuality, or any other defining traits.
I have been thinking about becoming an officiant for a long time...
There are a few reasons for this interest.
1. I have two children who identify within the LGBTQ+ community. I was attending a church who claims to be inclusive and welcoming to all. The problem is while they claim to be welcoming, they do not perform LGTBQ+ marriages. I stopped going to that church because I felt that the message I was sending to my children was "your marriage is not important". And that could not be farther from the truth.
2. Recently, a friend of mine's daughter could not find someone to marry her at their destination location. Immediately I said, "I'll do it! I have been wanting to become an officiant for a while now!"
3. Eight years ago, a friend of mine called me frantic because she found out that there was a problem with their marriage certificate and she needed an officiant that could make it legal in Nebraska. I was able to find someone to help her right away. I thought how cool it was to be able to help her and I put "become an officiant" on my bucket list!
