❓Have you ever inadvertently forgotten to reply to a wedding supplier that you reached out to for information or a quotation?

I want ti be honest; of late, I’ve had so many colleagues in the wedding industry share their experiences of being ‘ghosted’ after responding to enquiries or providing quotes in the past few weeks.

🫶 Tonight, I’d like to gently remind everyone: if you’re reaching out to suppliers or indeed venues for information and quotes for your wedding, *please* don’t leave them in the dark. If the quote isn’t right for you, if you’ve chosen another supplier/venue, or if you’re not able or ready to commit or even if you’ve simply changed your mind — just let them know. It’s a sign of respect and courtesy during your wedding planning.

Remember, the suppliers you’re contacting are often small businesses for whom every client counts. The start of 2024 has been challenging for many in our field, and we’re all feeling the pinch from the cost of living and rising expenses. That’s why it’s vital for these entrepreneurs to be able to forecast their earnings accurately. It’s more than just courtesy; it’s essential for their sustainability — I can’t emphasise this enough.

If you’ve recently asked for a quote from any wedding service provider, please extend them the courtesy of a response once they get back to you. A simple acknowledgment like ‘Thank you, but we’ve decided to go in a different direction,’ or ‘Your work is wonderful, but unfortunately, it’s out of our budget at the moment,’ goes a long, long way. They will completely understand, I promise you.

Also, bear in mind that if another client is ready to book on the spot, a supplier may not be able to hold your date indefinitely.

It’s OK to say ‘No, thank you’ - but it’s really not OK to ghost. Let’s practice kindness and empathy towards the dedicated network of small, creative businesses in our wedding industry. No more ghosting, please! ❌👻

This is my once annual post that isn’t related to flowers. In addition to being a floral designer and event coordinator, I am also a mom and a Girl Scout leader. It’s cookie season!

My daughters. Melody and Ainsley, are selling Girl Scout Cookies! Both girls are helping their troops save for traveling adventures. They are also both currently working on their 'precious metal' projects- Ainsley is working on her Silver Award and Melody is working on her Gold Award. Cookie earnings can help pay for supplies for those projects as well.

If you'd like to order, please see their links in the comments. Shipped cookies usually are sent right away. In-person delivery cookies will come at the end of March or early April.

I don’t take Valentine’s orders anymore since All in the Details is focused primarily on event and wedding work. But I strongly encourage you to shop local and/or find real florists, especially small businesses, to support on Valentine’s Day. You’ll get better flowers, nicer arrangements, and more bang for your buck. Avoid “order gatherers” at all costs. They are terrible.

Random flower fact of the day: did you know that tulips keep growing after they’ve been cut?

It’s true! I made this bouquet a week ago for the Wedding Expo. It sat out of water on my table for 5 hours. After the show, I trimmed the stems, put it in fresh water, and put it back in my dark floral cooler. The tulips have grown about 2.5 inches in the last 6 days. I’ll be adjusting them today and freshening up the other flowers so this lovely peach bouquet can be featured at tomorrow’s bridal show too. In case you were curious how fresh your flowers will be if you order them from me- this should give you an idea! My clients get the freshest flowers I can find so they last and last. For shows (no client) I’m always able to use the flowers for at least two weeks.

Tulips are also phototropic- which means they like to grow towards the light. So if tulips in your arrangements are bending, turn the bouquet to face another way!

Come join us for the Post Falls Bridal Tour tomorrow from 10 am- 3pm. It’ll be a lot of fun and good way not to be stuck at home!
