A few memories from last weekend’s Holiday Orchid Planter Workshop at our Flower House ✨

I always feel so lucky to have such a beautiful home to host my clients for these workshops and just to come to work in general ❤️

We spent the afternoon creating with some beautiful orchids from a California grower along with piles of moss, twigs, pinecones and a selection of fun planters to create a lovely holiday display for everyone to take home.

We also enjoyed the festive coffee bar and homemade goodies that and I baked for the occasion.

All in all, it was a wonderful way to spend an unseasonably warm Sunday! I feel so fortunate that it was last weekend instead of this one since the weather has turned frosty! ❄️

Come enjoy a relaxing afternoon of beauty, flowers and friendship and learn how we put together multiple orchids into a planter with moss , twigs and pinecones for an upscaled look perfect for your holiday home or as a gift to give. It’s Amaryllis time again!!! Our enormous Royal Dutch amaryllis bulbs arrived in October and they have been quietly waking up out of dormancy in my sunny, warm Flower House bathroom ( the “nursery” 😂). They are almost all beginning to poke up their little green shoots that will eventually put out their glorious trumpet shaped blooms. Each stock has between three and four blooms on it and most of these huge, premium amaryllis bulbs will put up somewhere between two and four Flowering stems over the course of the next month or more. I am just beginning to pot them up into their decorative pots, adding moss, twigs for support and interesting little tidbits, like pinecones and stones that I have collected. These flowers truly get me through winter. I just love watching nature unfold, and the slow process of these bulbs coming to life. I have been offering them to Siouxland for about 10 years now and so many of you look forward to their arrival. I am working on the newsletter, which I will email out in the next few days which will have all the details about how you can get an amaryllis this year. Basically these beauties will be available for pick up or delivery. You will simply place your order on our website once it goes live on the Amaryllis offering/Winter Market Webshop and then you can arrange a delivery/pickup appointment.

I just wanted to put out this quick message because people have begun asking about the amaryllis and how they can get them this year! Basically, if you’re not on our email newsletter list and you want to be, just click the link below to our website and sign up for our newsletter or send me your email in a message. Our newsletter list gets first dibs on placing their orders and then we send it out through social media later . Quantities are always limited so stay tuned .

We will be offering single bulbs, potted up and multiple bulb gardens for an even more spectacular profusion of blooms.

A few weeks ago, I enjoyed such a fun afternoon of creativity, friendship, and flowers with Jenna Cook of Clovergold Flower Farm at her place. we each decided to create fall table scapes, and then style them, and Jenna was kind enough to photograph them. It was windy outside, but we snuck into one of her old farm sheds and found a quiet place to work. For the afternoon. Jenna made a tablescape full of local items she found growing around the farm even after a big frost. Lots of milkweed and yellow asparagus fern. Just beautiful. I had ordered some flowers in from California, for some turning oak leaves near my home and found some interesting seed pods to use in mine. I brought a carload full of place settings and things to style our tables with and we got to work. It was a nice chance to mock-up some ideas for what I will be offering for Thanksgiving on our website (I put the link below in case anyone still needs to order-deadline is Friday!) I can’t thank Jenna enough for her beautiful photography and for her continued friendship and inspiration.

Anyone up for an impromptu workshop this Saturday? I will be taking just 4 people with me to our farm down near Hornick, Iowa where we will forage for all sorts of prairie grasses and seed pods. We will enjoy an hour or more getting the opportunity to be outdoors and collect the bounty of our field that is planted with all sorts of prairie grasses. I love going here every year and cutting a carload of fall goodies to use in my designs so I thought I would open the experience up to a few nature lovers . After we load up as much as we want, we will head back for lunch at the flower House and I will be teaching an easy to learn method for creating a fall prairie wreath! This will be a fun day spent celebrating fall splendor. Class is limited to 4 people . $95 includes transportation, lunch, materials and instructions for making your own fall grass wreath! After more than a year of planning a very special wedding for a bride in Storm Lake, Jenna Clovergold Flower Farm and I joined together to create some really artistic, farm-fresh florals . This bride hired to custom-grow her flowers special just for her wedding and were they ever amazing! The purple, dusky mauve, golden color palette was such a unique and gorgeous take on fall. After the bride shared her ideas for a general color scheme,  took to pouring over seed catalogues last fall to pick out exactly what she would grow for us to use in the bride’s wedding. What an incredible, bespoke wedding flower concept🌸 It took a ton of thoughtful planning, hard work and artistic design to pull this off and I can’t think of anyone I would rather collaborate with on this than Jenna Clovergold Flower Farm

All the glorious blooms that we used for this wedding were grown exclusively by with the exception of a handful of dahlias from Furrow Flower Farm in Sioux City. All these gorgeous blooms were bursting with vibrant freshness having been picked literally the morning we begin arranging. In fact, we picked flowers almost every day directly from the fields to work with whenever we needed some extra fill-in. The ritual of sunrise and sunset picking was one of the many perks of producing a large wedding directly onsite at a flower farm. This willl go down in the books as having been a truly special event week.

We put in long hours arranging out underneath a maple tree with chickens and ducks to keep us company. I thoroughly enjoyed the creative talent and kind personality of Jenna and couldn’t be happier with what we made together. We didn’t get nearly enough photos in our dash to get it all done but we are hopeful for some amazing professional photos of the event to share in the future. This family went all out putting together a beautiful wedding and we hope the happy couple had an extraordinary day ❤️

I also want to give a little shout out to Maddie for coming yo help us and to Etta for housing me in her lovely barn apartment.

Well it’s been FOREVER since I have made an actual post here besides sharing my stories all summer. It’s time to get back in the swing of sharing some of my wonderful floral adventures so I thought this would be a fun place to start!!! A couple weekends ago I had a blast doing flowers for a vintage circus/freakshow themed dance party here in Sioux City . This amazing collaboration with Katie Sullivan and her wildly creative event planning skills resulted in … well to be honest…a hell of a party !!! That’s an understatement 🎪💯. The other vendors are listed below and deserve a serious shout out for helping to make this event what it was.

As always, I love to embrace a good theme and came to the event dressed up in a riff on a vintage clown outfit 😂 And yes, that is me standing next to the stiltwalker 😂😂😂😂😂. I look like a baby for Pete’s sake 🤪. This just shows you what fun we all had with this party. I made all sorts of crazy, whimsical, colorful circusy-themed florals created with all the summer’s best locally grown blooms from right here in Sioux City (thank you Furrow Flower Farm , Living Treasures Flower Farm, Wynns Tomato Ranch, A Bloom and a Prayer LLC, and all the other people who helped grow these amazing flowers). I did buy a few stems from other places like the Oregon-grown gloriosa lilies that screamed circus to me!!! See the photos below with them in the caption to see which ones they are. They were such crazy blooms that I haven’t had the chance to work with in years. Sooo cool!!!

I’m sure I will look back on this event as one of the most creative, crazy adventures of the year. Thank you to my wonderful client who hosted the party and invited my husband and I because we had the most fun dancing the night away to the Georgia Bridgwater orchestra after a busy week of prep. And huge thanks to my Honeysuckle Hollow flower helpers Cynthia Moser and Maddie McCreadie …as always, I couldn’t do it without your help!!!
