I see a lot of ads on Facebook for seeds for many of the "flowers" you see in the photo. Each photo has hundreds, if not thousands of people stating how beautiful and unique they are. While it is true...they are beautiful and unique, but they are also fake.

First...there is no blue rose in nature. Yes, I, as a florist, can get blue roses...they are white roses that are dyed. You won't get a blue rose from a bush. And look at that "pokemon rose"...do you really think that one would grow like that? Come on...

Don't waste your money on seeds for odd colored roses, sunflowers, pampas grass...these are all photoshopped pictures.

Just a friendly word of caution...

I've just received a huge shipment of foliage plants. Several sizes and varieties available. Small plants are $40, medium $70, and large $90. All come polished and in a soft woven cover with a bow.

I sell plants most frequently for funeral services, but remember...plants make an excellent gift! They can last for years with proper care, AND they help to purify the air in your home...and with our hot stagnant air coming this summer, that's a great thing!

I've had a change of plans regarding my hours through this weekend.

I will be closing today (Wednesday, May 29) at 3pm and will remain closed until Monday, June 3. I will be out of state, attending a major family event. I had previously announced that I would be open through Noon on Thursday, but plans have changed and I will not be open at all Thursday. Please note that all orders that were previously placed for Thursday delivery will indeed be made.

Since 1970, our cemetery pots had remained unchanged...all flowers were wrapped with florist foil with a plastic bow. If you've ever bought a traditional cemetery pot, you probably know that the first thing that deteriorates in the weather is the foil wrap and the bow. So, finally...after 54 years, I've updated our cemetery pots! Now...made in plastic containers that will withstand the elements, the flowers are secured in concrete, guaranteeing you that they won't simply blow away! These are 6" pots...the same size that we've always made, so if you have a concrete/marble pot on site, these will still fit...but, no bow and foil! If you don't have a vase/urn/pot on site, these simply sit on the ground (I also have wire holders to make sure that they won't blow over in high winds).

The new cemetery pots range in price from $40-$60, and I have several color varieties available and ready for pick up...and more are being made soon!

I also keep a selection of flowers to fit your vases (3" and 4" diameter) or saddles that clamp onto the top of the monument.

I’m thankful that I have a career that, in most cases, I help to spread joy and love into people’s lives. This past week, we delivered well over a hundred gifts to mothers all over the Valley area, helping to celebrate Mother’s Day.

This photo of my mother (the last photo of her before she passed in 2015) hangs in my shop overlooking my workroom. Even to this day, nine years later, I can feel her presence. If I make something that she would question, I can hear her voice telling me that that wouldn’t pass. My mom was my biggest critic, but because of that, both she and my father instilled in me many qualities that have helped make me a successful floral designer. Integrity, efficiency, professionalism…I grew up watching my parents and learning from them.

Along with so many others, I’m missing my mom on this Mother’s Day. But, I know she’s always with me.

To all the mothers reading…Happy Mother’s Day to you! If you received a flower delivery from my shop this week, I hope you know that it was made with a lot of love, and my own mother had a hand in its creation.

Now that the dust has settled and all orders are prepared for delivery/pick up tomorrow, I do have a couple of my popular porcelain vases and one pitcher left. These will be available for pick up only (our delivery calendar is full) and on a first come first served basis. I'll open my doors at 9am tomorrow...come get 'em before these are gone!

The vase is $54.95 and the pitcher is $84.95. Just FYI...the retail price on the vase alone is $32.95 and the pitcher $49.95. I have a few vases/pitchers left but no hydrangeas left to fill them with...if you want a nice vase for a Mother's Day gift, I'll sell the vase (with no flowers) for $24.95 and the pitcher for $34.95.

I gotta do a little bragging...but not on myself or my shop, but my wonderful customers! I've got the absolute best customers anyone could ask for! Every single person that has entered my doors or called lately has been exceptionally kind and warm. I could not ask for better!

Judging by social media, you'd think that the world is a bitter harsh place full of very unhappy people. Thankfully, the last few days have given me hope that that is not 100% accurate. I've spoken with some of the most amiable individuals that were simply a joy to engage in conversation.

If you've called or dropped by my shop in the last few days...thank you...not only for your patronage of my business, but also for the ray of sunshine you brought with you.

Again...my customers are THE BEST!!!

If you place an order on my website (or any florist website, for that matter), PLEASE proofread your order...ESPECIALLY the card message.

I do not alter card messages once I receive an order from my website. What you type is exactly what is included on the card when I make the delivery. Spelling, punctuation, and proper grammar is very very important.. Today, I made a delivery with the following card message: "I'm sorry you are so beautiful and amazing". That should be two sentences. I'm sure the recipient got the intended message, but come on folks...put those skills you learned in high school to use. PROOFREAD! In this case, taken as it is written, it could be quite insulting.

And this is just one example. I bet I get questionable card messages at least two or three times a week. But like I said, I will not alter the message in any way. For all I know, you intend to insult the recipient (doubtful I know, but the card message is personal and I can't take on the responsibility of correcting it for you).

As someone who makes deliveries all over the Valley area, please allow me to offer a few bits of advice...

1. Please have your house number posted so that it can be seen easily. On your mailbox, on a fence post...it doesn't matter...just please have it somewhere so we can find your house.

2. If your doorbell doesn't work, please place a piece of tape over it so those of us that will use it will know that we need to knock instead of ringing the bell.

3. Please understand...I am a guest arriving at your home to make a delivery. I am not a friend nor family. It is proper etiquette for me to approach your front door. I will only go to a side door, a garage door, or a back door if specifically told to do so, or if the front door is inaccessible. Don't get angry with me because I used the "wrong door". If you don't want me to come to your front door, put a note on the door stating such.

4. If you have dogs that are loose outside and they approach my vehicle, I will NOT get out under most circumstances. In our 50+ year history, we have been chased and bitten multiple times. Your dogs might be friendly to YOU...but they don't know ME, and you just never know what can trigger a dog.

5. On a related note: please try to contain your dog when you come to your door. I can't tell you how many times someone's pet rushes out the door, runs into the yard (and subsequently getting mud on their paws after a rain), then returns and jumps on my legs, leaving mud stains on my pants. Sometimes red mud will not wash out.

Prom season has already begun...we've already had at least one local prom and it's not even April yet! But it kicks into high gear next week, with several local proms set between now and mid-April.

I'm going to pass along my friendly reminder about searching for photos of prom flowers on the internet, especially on Pinterest. If you will be ordering prom flowers soon, please take a moment and read this blog post from a few years ago.

EVERY SINGLE PERSON that has come in so far this year with a photo of a bouquet that they've picked out has chosen a bridal bouquet that would cost upwards of $200 and would require two or three weeks notice to get the special flowers in stock. Looking for some opinions...

As Mother's Day is approaching in 6 weeks, I'm trying to come up with some designs that would please a mother. Hydrangeas are my most popular flower requested for this holiday. I found this lovely blue and white porcelain vase and thought about filling it with nothing but hydrangeas. Yes...it's a simple design, but is it too simple for your taste? Is this something you'd send your mother? The vase isn't cheap...this design would retail for $54.95, but she'd have a keepsake vase to treasure for years to come.

Please...give me your thoughts. Yay or Nay?

4 years ago this week, the world started shutting down. We were introduced to terms that we've never used before, like "social distancing", "shelter at home", and "PPE". The pandemic ushered in a new way of life for everyone around the globe and many of the practices established during the onset of the spread of the virus have become commonplace.

Although it hasn't been the smoothest ride, I'm happy that now that 4 years have passed, I'm still here. Many businesses shut down during the worst of covid and never returned.

Thank you for your support during the "Covid era". While it hasn't been the easiest time for any small business, my shop made it through it because of many of you that are reading this post. I appreciate it immensely.

For the last several years on this date, I'm quite fortunate to be called upon to deliver flowers to a wonderful woman in Lanett on her birthday. This lady is still completely independent...lives alone, cooks all her meals, cleans her entire house (and it's no small abode either!), and does her laundry. She's as sharp as a tack and as spry as people half her age. She turned 98 years old today, and I can only hope that if I live that long, that my quality of life as as good as hers. She is such a joy to deliver flowers to! Happy Birthday Avis Rice!
