With the coming winter weather, I will likely be closed Wednesday...so if you need a delivery for Wednesday or possibly even Thursday, you might want to call and schedule it for Tuesday. It's better to be early than to miss a special occasion completely!

It's mid-January...how many of you have a whimsical tree (you know...the one that was inspired by the Grinch) that was purchased from my shop that still looks good?

A message about wiring flowers out of town...

I've shared a similar post about this very issue several times, but it's worth repeating every now and then.

If you are ever in need of sending a flower or plant out of your local area, your best option is to use Google...look up florists in the zip code where you'd like a delivery to be made and call them directly (or order from their website, IF and only IF you can verify that the website is for a local florist that shows their address within that zip and phone number). DO NOT, under any circumstances, use one of the many "services" available online (800Flowers, From You Flowers, Sunny Flower Delivery, etc...). These are not actual florists...they are call centers that take your order, promise you the moon, then fail to deliver.

Case in point: this morning I had a woman call me at 11:05am. She needed a delivery made before Noon. I told her that I could not get a flower made and delivered in that short a time period. She had called 800Flowers over the weekend and they promised delivery at 9am today. 800Flowers is NOT local...they take your order then have to call one of the three local shops here in town to service the delivery...and none of us deliver at 9am. I open at 9am and begin delivering around 10am...so they made a promise that they had no business making...there was no way they could keep it. So she canceled the order with them when she found out the delivery wasn't made, then she called me at the last minute to find that there just wasn't enough time for me to design the flower and have it delivered.

The ONLY WAY to have flowers delivered into an area is for a local shop to service the order. All of these online services have to call upon the local florists to handle their orders...and I'll be honest, I don't accept orders from many of those online services because they are nothing but scammers.

So...do yourself a favor...when you want flowers outside of your local area, remember...Google is your friend. Look up florists in the zip code where you'd like something to be sent. Find one with good Google ratings, and call them! It'll save you money, you'll actually talk to the shop that will make your order, and you'll be much more likely to be satisfied than if you go through one of those online services.

Opening at 11am today. I am out of a few staple flowers, but I’m sure I can design something for your needs this afternoon. Give me a call!

This shouldn't be necessary to post, but considering I had a few people call to see if I was open on New Year's Day, perhaps it's needed...

Due to the weather forecast for Friday morning, I do not plan to open until the temps rise and all dangers of black ice have been eliminated. Hopefully I will open after lunch.

Subject to change, depending on the forecast and timing of the weather events for our area.

Typically, I close on Christmas Eve for a few days...which means I would normally be open next Monday for last minute holiday deliveries. HOWEVER, I'm having a busier than normal weekend and will be running out of fresh flowers. My next shipment couldn't be here any earlier than Monday afternoon, which is too late to prepare flowers and get them delivered before I close for the holiday...SO, my new plan...I'll be closed the entirety of next week and will return to the shop on Monday, Dec 30.

All orders that have already been placed for Monday will be delivered.

With only 5 business days left until Christmas Eve, I cannot accept any custom orders for cemetery silks until we can re-stock after the beginning of the new year. What I have in stock presently is all that will be available for the remainder of the year.

I do still have a few cemetery pots, a couple of cones, and a saddle that are all red and white...great for this time of year. Drop by soon before they are gone!

As we near the end of this day of giving thanks, I'm reminded of many things for which I am exceptionally grateful...

First and foremost, my shop is about to enter its 55th year in business in the Valley. We've been through some very difficult years, and at times both my father and I thought we weren't going to make it to unlock the front door another day. Yet...here I am. I am so incredibly thankful for my community that continues to support my little business each and every day.

I am thankful for Jody Walker. I've known Jody since we were children having attended the same church. A few years ago, I had posted that I needed some delivery help for Valentines Day. He responded and shared that his mother-in-law would love to help out if possible. Betty Jean Cotton and her daughter Amy Walker have been the most incredible additions to my staff, even though they only work as needed. They are there when called upon, and honestly, I can't imagine life at the shop without having them to back me up during my busiest times. So, thanks Jody for that initial contact, but most importantly, thank you BJ and Amy for coming to my aid at the most important times!

Believe it or not, I have to thank covid. Yes...the pandemic. Covid made me realize I was overdoing it and needed to slow things down a bit. When the virus started sweeping across the nation, like so many businesses, I closed for a brief time, then opened the shop back up only by phone or website. I cut my hours and worked one less day. Since I owned my first shop 40 years ago, I was used to working 6 days every week and averaging over 60 hours per week. Some weeks I'd push over 100 hours. But covid changed that. After business started returning to normal, I realized that I just couldn't go back to that kind of work week every week...not at 60 years old. So, I kept the shortened hours and I'm now open 5 days per week. It's much less stressful (most of the time) which means that I might make it a few more years before I decide to hang up my work apron.

As I begin my 41st year as an owner of a flower shop, I promise to continue to always be thankful for your support by offering the freshest and most beautiful floral designs while giving courteous, respectful, and efficient customer service.

Many thanks to all of you.
