Congratulations Hampton athletes!

ICYMI: The Hampton Crabbers won the Class 4 boys basketball championship on Friday, defeating Tuscarora 66-63 in Richmond. It is Hampton's sixth state championship in boys basketball, and the school's first since 2012. The Hampton girls team lost 68-58 to Woodgrove in the title game. Also last week, Kecoughtan won the Class 5 boys title at the state indoor track meet, with Jaymes Saunders taking first place in the high jump. Bethel's Kris Stephens also won the state title in the long jump.

Congratulations Joey Stickle and Jihan Minson, recipients of the CAA Cares Community Award!

🏆 Coastal Athletic Association Commissioner Joe D’Antonio presented Joey Stickle and Jihan Minson with the CAA Cares Community Award on Thursday evening at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex in conjunction with the CAA Swimming & Diving Championship. The CAA Cares Community Award recognizes individuals who have made a positive impact within their community or on the campus of a CAA institution.

🏊‍♂️ Stickle is a long-time advocate for competitive swimming in Virginia. Coach Stickle has led the Kecoughtan High School swim team since 2004 and is the organizer of the Kecoughtan Invitational Meet, a meet that has been held annually for more than 30 years. A passionate supporter of the development of a competitive aquatics facility in Hampton, Stickle spoke of the benefits of competitive swimming at Hampton Town Hall Meetings, participated in the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex stakeholder committee that influenced the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex facility features and spoke at both the groundbreaking and opening of the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex. He continues to coach and to influence aquatic development on the Virginia Peninsula.

🏊🏾‍♀️ Minson has been a Swim America instructor since age 15. She joined Coast Guard Blue Dolphins Swim Team in 2006 as Head Development Coach and when CGBD started Swim America Lessons, Minson assumed the role of Site Supervisor for the program. Coach Minson is the Virginia Swimming Board of Directors Chair for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, which strives to increase multicultural, ethnic and socioeconomic diversity and to foster an inclusive environment at all levels of the sport of competitive swimming. Coach Minson coordinated the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex Learn to Swim program for second graders in partnership with Hampton City Schools and the City of Hampton. Now in its second year, the program serves to introduce children to swimming at an early age, instilling early confidence and love of the sport.

The 2024 CAA Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving Championships is coming to the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex Feb. 28-March 2!

🎟️ All-session tickets will also be on sale at the door for $95 for adults and $45 for children under 18. Individual sessions are $15 for adults and $7 for children under 18.

Atlantic 10 Conference Conference's Swimming & Diving Championships will be hosted here in Hampton at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex from February 21-24. They are looking for approximately 18-20 volunteers during their Prelim sessions (approximately 10am - 1pm) and their Finals sessions (approximately 6pm - 9 pm), mostly for backup timing, ticket scanning, and help with water coolers.

Old Dominion University Head Coach Chris Finwood has announced Hank Morgan as the 46th recipient of the prestigious Bud Metheny Award. Hank recently finished his 16th season as Manager of The Peninsula Pilots in the Coastal Plain League and has been a longtime champion for baseball in the Hampton Roads community. In 16 seasons at the helm, Hank has amassed an impressive 515 career wins (most in CPL history), 2 Petit Cup Championships in 2013 and 2014, two victories against the Team USA Collegiate National Team and has coached 12 former Pilots who’ve made big league appearances.

The award will be presented on Friday, January 19th at The Annual ODU Baseball “Step up to the Plate” fundraiser in the Priority Automotive Club (inside S.B. Ballard Stadium) at 6pm.

Food and beverages (open bar) are included in the ticket price. Guests in attendance will have the opportunity to meet and greet the ODU Baseball team and coaching staff. 2024 will be the final season at the existing “Bud” before renovations begin on The Ellmer Family Baseball Complex.

The original dual meet advancement tournament is back in Hampton, Virginia on January 12-13, 2024 for the 43rd annual Virginia Duals! The Peninsula Wrestling Association hosts the 43rd Annual Virginia Duals Wrestling Tournament at Hampton Coliseum. The team advancement concept started in Hampton, Virginia with the Virginia Duals in 1981 and is now used by Virginia and many other states to determine the best high school team in the state. The National College Wrestling Coaches Association also recognized the value of the Team Advancement concept and now has the National Dual Team Championships to recognize the best college team in the nation. The Virginia Duals Wrestling Tournament is the largest college and high school tournament in the world.
