There’s a C**t Ford song, Ride Through the Country, that goes something like, “...been around the world twice seen all 50 States, ate on thousand-dollar china but love some paper plates... County folks eat biscuits called cat-heads, BBQ, baked bean, sweet tea, and white bread...” It’s part of where I came from and after serving 27 1/2 years in the Navy and literally smoking BBQ all around the world for fun, as that “Texas Ambassador,” I now have time to do what I love full-part- time... but on Cape Cod? Why?
Well, I swept my beautiful wife off her feet 21 years ago, took her to the Middle East and wherever else the Navy sent us. So, after I retired, I knew it was her time to choose a place to live and though she chose Texas at first for 8 years, she missed Cape Cod and for one solid reason…FAMILY. She has a beautiful, BIG, loving family located almost entirely on the Cape where they love me and my BBQ! Besides, I can do BBQ anywhere, just ask George at Senior Paco’s in Bahrain...lol. They still have a pit that I helped them order from David Klose and shipped from Houston Texas that they still use today.
So being a retired naval officer and a graduate of the esteemed University of Texas, I find that what I enjoy second to family, is making people smile with some awesome Texas Style BBQ straight off the pit!
Admiral Moore once told me after I smoked some 30 “yard birds” for a hail and farewell, “Son you’re a damn good officer but I think you missed your calling!”
